Hello, Has anyone on this list ever heard of an organization called the "Eastern Star", apparently in Dauphin Co? I have found some ancestors who were members but know nothing about this organization. Is there any way to contact them and obtain genealogical information on an ancestor? Thank you, Elizabeth ____________________________________________________________________________________ Park yourself in front of a world of choices in alternative vehicles. Visit the Yahoo! It is the female side of the Masons. Hope that helps. Perhaps you can contact the Masons of the county -----Original Message----- From: padauphi-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:padauphi-bounces@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of ewintr Sent: Monday, August 27, 2007 1:15 AM To: PADAUPHI@rootsweb.com Cc: PADAUPHI-HISTORY@rootsweb.com Subject: [PADAUPHI] "Eastern Star" organization? The Eastern Star is a BRANCH of the Masons for the wives and daughters, Info can be gotten from the Masonic Lodge . They can point you to the Stars' secertary who keeps the records. I am a member of the Eastern Star and have had many friends in the Dauphin County branch. They do not have genealogical information on members. They could not help you with this. The only thing they could possibly furnish is the address of the person at the time of membership. If you have Eastern Star in your family, you're going to find Masons. You may even find the emblems on tombstones. You probably won't get a lot of information from the records either. http://www.easternstar.org/oes/oeshistory.html The history of the Eastern Star is divided into three Eras: 1. The First Era extended from 1850 to 1866, under the leadership of Dr. Rob Morris, Poet Laureate of Masonry. 2. The Second Era extended from 1860 to 1876, under the leadership of Robert Macoy of New York. 3. The Third Era extends from 1876, when the General Grand Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, was established to the present time. http://www.easternstar.org/oes/join.html Who may join: Only men who are Masons are eligible and only women with specific Masonic affiliation may be members. These affiliations include: * Affiliated Master Masons in good standing, * the wives * daughters * legally adopted daughters * mothers * widows * sisters * half sisters * granddaughters * stepmothers * stepdaughters * stepsisters * daughters-in-law * grandmothers * great granddaughters * nieces * great nieces * mothers-in-law * sisters-in-law and daughters of sisters or brothers of affiliated Master Masons in good standing, or if deceased were in good standing at the time of their death; as well as members - either active for three(3) years or majority - of the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls or of the International Order of Job's daughters, each of whom having attained to at least the age of eighteen (18) years, are eligible to membership in the Order of the Eastern Star. ewintr wrote: > Hello, > > Has anyone on this list ever heard of an organization > called the "Eastern Star", apparently in Dauphin Co? Many thanks to all who replied to my question. These seem to be very active, helpful mailing lists!!! It sounds as though contacting the organization will not yield any help regarding my ancestors though since they would not reveal anything about their members. I thoroughly enjoyed going to the web site and viewing the clothing styles of the women in earlier eras!! I can only imagine how grand my ancestors must have looked in their finest!! I know that several members of my direct line ( ZEIGLER ) were members, and my step-grandfather ( Donald REED ) was also a member. Time period for them would have been 1880-1950 or so. Thank you all again for the information, Elizabeth ==================================================== --- Barbara <brivas1@cox.net> wrote: > If you have Eastern Star in your family, you're > going to find Masons. > You may even find the emblems on tombstones.
