William AYRES, who is one of the sketch subjects in Bob Maley's Transcription Project, was, among other things, a Lawyer. Here is a trial, and a surname, that I would like to know more about. Also, what is the Upper End? Upper Paxtang? ***** He had a very large acquaintance in the "Upper End," was able to speak German, and otherwise possessed many qualifications then valued and essential to practice with profit. The celebrated McElhenny murder case, in which he saved his client from the gallows, gave him a marked prominence. ***** William was born 1788, and died 1856. He begain practicing law in 1826. He died in Harrisburg. He was married to Mary Elizabeth BUCHER, and was born to parents: John AYRES and Jane LYTLE. Thanks for any feedback, Vince Summers
