List If you could have dinner with one of your ancestors, who would it be and why? Reply to list. Nadine List Admin
I would have dinner with my 3Great Grandfather Jacob Witz, b. 1809, married 1831 Lebanon, PA to Sarah Fornwalt. It would be interesting to know what motivated him to pack up and leave Lebanon, PA, and move around 1838 to the western frontier close to Fort Recovery, Ohio, then move over to Tiffin, Seneca County, Ohio, and finally settle down in unpopulated Saginaw, MI, in 1852...the whole while producing and hauling around a dozen children in covered wagons? Oh, the wonderful tales he would be able to tell! I would love to have dinner with my great grandmother. Catherine Freeland Wilson Rose. Born in Apr 1859 died in July 1930 I would ask her who were her parents? What happen to her first husband,my great grandfather John H.Wilson he died between 1885 and 1890 because she was married to Daniel Rose by then. Was John's father named Daniel born in Dauphin Co.,1822. How was she able to cope with losing her daughter-in-law Minnie Potteiger Wilson leaving eight small children to help her son my grandfather to raise. I know she had to care about her family because there was always grand children with her in all the census right up till her death in 1930. I would have her teach me to make apple dumplings like the PA Dutch make that my father always talked about but none of us could make like she did. Nadine Wilson Hensley
Which one of us would be the host? Should we answer this question with respect to having a dinner at our ancestor's house, or a dinner in our house? I don't know Nelson, your like me and are thinking to hard on this question. My house is a mess so I think I take the walk to my ancestor's house. I think I'd pick my father, who died at age 41 when I was 13. Some how he and his mother's generation lost allot of the history of his family, like his gg grandfather being in the Union army in the Civil war. So It would be great to sit down over a beer and some liverwurst (a favorite snack of his) and tell my dad what I've learned over the years. Also give him a chance to tell HIS side of the stories I'm now being told by his cousins who I have had a chance to sit with......Like how many girls did you have to break up with when you married mom in the Navy?? And how many times did you break your nose, heard you were a bit of a scrapper?? I am going to cheat a bit and give a different answer than the one I gave on the Lancaster list, but this one is from Dauphin Co; also, further cheating, he is not my direct ancestor, his sister was (my great-great grandmother). Who: Dr. David Cassel Keller (always went by "D.C.") 1814-1891. Early in life he was a schoolteacher and always remained interested in education, being a member of the school board. Later he became a physician and was a country doctor in Union Deposit for many years; his obituary says he delivered 2000 babies. His long obit and his will are on my website at: http://janiceaf.home.netcom.com/keller.html#davobit Why: Just think of the stories he could tell, I wouldn't have to say a thing! Nadine, this was a great idea! It would be my great grandfather so I could ask him why he moved the family to MO and then back to Lycoming County, PA a few years later. Also I would ask him who his parents were and why his son did know who they were.
