    1. [PADAUPHI] Re: [PADAUPHI-L] Find ANCESTOR? in Hanover twp

    3. May I add myself to this? I am researching Johan Frederick Ebbecke. His daughter Sarah married Michael McCann. I do know that Johan had 6 acres in Londonderry Twp, and that Michael and Sarah lived in Middletown. Son Charles lived in nearby Elizabethtown, Lancaster County, and married Mary Gross. Anyone researching these lines? Joanne > > In all your previous correspondences you choose not to mention the name > of the ancestor you are looking for. Care to share it? I feel that this person might have been in some sort of business since there was quite a list of people who owed him money on accounts. > > Was Hanover (post office) the only community in this township? I was surprised at the number of people living in the township. How can I get a copy of the Gazetteer you mentioned? Also are there any maps of the area during the 1820-1830 time period such as the 1875 maps that are being published on the Dauphin Co. website?. > > Thanks again! > > > > Gwen > > > > Jay Osman wrote: > > > > > Gwen, > > > In the 1832 Gazetteer of Pennsylvania, WEST HANOVER Twp. Dauphin Co. is discribed as; "bounded N. by the Second Mt., E by Lebanon Co., S. by Swatara River[sic], which separates it from Derry Twp. and, W. by Lower Paxton Twp. 36,000 acres, 10 miles at greatest length. Pop in 1830, 2543 taxables. Beaver Creek runs along the W. boundary, Manada Creek and Bow Run flow through it, all S. to the Swatara. The Post Office having the same name as the Township is 126 ms. N.W. from W.C. and 15 ms. S.E. of Harrisburg." > > > I have no idea what the "ms." means, maybe the coodinates (longitude and latitude), maybe someone else on the List can help you with that. This is a real puzzle, good luck. You know of course there is a Hanover Borough in Heidelberg Twp., York Co. about 25 miles south of Harrisburg, and a Hanover Village in Hanover Twp., Lehigh Co., at least in 1832. > > > Regards, > > > Jay > > > > > > ----- Original Message ----- > > > From: Gwen Coleman > > > To: PADAUPHI-L@rootsweb.com > > > Sent: Tuesday, July 11, 2000 2:50 PM > > > Subject: [PADAUPHI-L] Find location in Hanover twp > > > > > > I would like to determine the location of an ancestor who died in > > > Hanover twp in 1828.
