Fies Charles E. Fies, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away Tuesday, October 17, 2006 at his residence in Middle-town, London-derry Twp. He was 79 years old. He was born April 28, 1927, in Reading, PA, son of the late William Victor and Agnes (Snyder) Fies. In addition to his parents, Mr. Fies was preceded in death by sisters, Kathryn Gemberling, Virginia Black and brother, William V. Fies, Jr. He survived by his wife of 58 years, Kathryn M. Wealand Fies; daughter, Carla F. Gilmartin and husband, David W., of Harrisburg and son, Kerry D. Fies and wife, Helen F. of Hummelstown; grandchildren, Ashley Gilmartin, Reilly Fies and Charles T. Fies; brother, Richard Fies and wife, Beverly of Whitehall and sister, Barbara Ann Sweigart and husband, Robert of Slater, MO. He proudly served in the Merchant Marines from 1944-1953 as an Ensign Radio Officer. He retired from AT&T after 32 years of service and was an AARP 55 Alive Driving Instructor. He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Middletown; Prince Edwin Masonic Lodge #486 of Middletown, where he served as Past Master in 1964 and 2002; Hummelstown Shooting Association; William Penn Pistol League, where he served as Secretary/Treasurer for many years; and the Londonderry Senior Citizens and Royalton Senior Citizens. After his retirement, he developed a passion for computers, which endured the rest of his life. He established a computer lab at the Royalton Senior Citizen's Center and taught computer skills to the members. He also developed a strong interest in genealogy in his later years, and belonged to several area historical societies. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, October 21, 2006 at Riverside Chapel, 630 South Union Street, Middletown.
