The MACHAMER line I am researching in Dauphin County is Charles Victor MACHAMER who married Minnie S. PROCASCO in 1904 in Williamstown. His parents were Charles and Sarah. Charles V. and Minnie had a son Charles Raymond. This is all the info I have so far on this line. Would like to find out more. It is likely since Port Royal is only about 10-15 miles down the road from Deodate where this family lived. My great grandfather was Cyrus Books, b. 1833 Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. His 1854 marriage record (by a justice of the peace) to Susan Mansberger (first married to Saner by which she has one child) states that his father's name was George and his mother's name was Christina/Christiana. His residence was Port Royal, Dauphin Co. Cyrus and Susan had several children in PA before moving to Ohio around 1860 (cannot find them in that census so may have been in transit). They had several children born somewhere in Ohio.. In 1870 they are in Piatt County, Illinois and had several children born there. In 1880 they are in Kansas (last child born there) Cyrus died in 1901 in Chase Co., Kansas. I have his will that lists all the children and a family photo taken about 1878. Susan died in 1911. According to census records, Cyrus mother Christina/Christiana was born in Austria/Germany and father George came from Ireland. I really think George was ethnic German. Hi Karl - The dirt lane to which Nelson refers is located on the east side of Middletown Road between the property owned by the Allegheny Valley Home School and the Ballard property (they have a split rail fence enclosing a pasture land for horses that borders Middletown Road). Descendents of Christina and Peter Noll, also Elizabeth Smith visit about once a year to care for the cemetery. Many of the stones are very legible and still upright. The listing has been on the Internet for years. There also is a listing at HDTHS. The land currently on the west side of Middletown Road where the two limestone homes were built was warranted by the Strickler family. You probably know them as the Zell farm and the William Baker Stover farm, not to be confused with the Edward Stover farm. Anne Derry Township. The Landis-Strickler Cemetery I'm referring to is presently on private property, accessible by a dirt lane which services several homes. The property owner [Mr. Kulp] is very friendly and doesn't mind people visiting the cemetery if they stop and talk to him first. E-mail me if you want to visit it.
