On the downside, Ancestry.com is no longer being offered free at the Family History Libraries. Census records, however, will soon all be free at _www.familysearch.org_ (http://www.familysearch.org) . A lot of the same information can be found on Rootsweb which was bought by Ancestry. The tree I posted on Rootsweb is now being charged access to if you look at it on Ancestry. I don't know if the viewing goes both ways if it's originally on Ancestry though but worth looking into. Charles E. Kindt - Lebanon,Pa. website: http://home.comcast.net/~charogen As of 7 Feb., 2008, I have added to my website: 108 pre 1900 obituaries from the Lebanon Courier. 149 pre 1885 marriages from the Lebanon Courier.
My goodness...for a long time (it seems to me) I've been deleting, without reading, the messages with the subject "list activity" and just now opened one to fine it's not about list activity at all but about a family... When you post a note be sure to change to subject so that it has something pertinent to to do with the information in the message...that is, if you want people to respond to your posts :-) ----- Original Message ---- From: elizabeth wolfe <newintr@gmail.com> To: padauphi@rootsweb.com Sent: Wednesday, February 6, 2008 9:29:38 PM Subject: Re: [PADAUPHI] list activity Hi, I've been able to trace this Carrie in the census records, but none give the name of her PROCASCO husband. For those of us who have been sharing information on this line and would like to continue the specific line of MACHAMER (all branches) and PROCASCO (all branches), I have a Rootsweb mailing list that can be used if you wish. It has been interesting to me to see the different spellings of PROCASCO (POCASCO , PERKASKO) that have been mentioned. I would have never thought of those variations for searching so that has been a help to me. *PROCASCO-L* lists2 *Topic:* A mailing list for the discussion and sharing of information regarding the Procasco surname and variations in any place and at any time. There is a large family tree on this family at Ancestry.com, going back generations. They were from Berks county, then moved to Dauphin after 1850. 1880 - 1930 Williams, Dauphin, Pa censuses 1860 & 1870 Wiconisco, Dauphin censuses 1850 North Heidelberg, Berks, Pa census The surname has been distorted in a number of the censuses Machamer, Machemer, Mochemer, etc. and sometimes Charles is listed as Victor. Charles Victor (aged 4 months old in the 1880 census and specifying that he was born in January, 1880 - contrary to his later February assertions and died 22 March 1945 in Dauphin), was a son of Charles Franklin (born 1852) and Sarah Machamer. Charles Franklin Machamer was a son of Charles Machamer (born abt 1805) and Esther (Hettie) Fisher (Hettie is called Sophia in the 1860 census, but is back to Hettie in the 1870 - as she remains the same age, I guess that either Esther's middle name is Sophia or the census-taker misheard the name. Charles Victor and Minnie S. Perkasko adopted 2 children according to the 1920 Williams, Dauphin census (Charles Raymond and Thelma). By the 1930 census, they have a daughter Mabel, aged 5(born abt 1925) as well as Charles Raymond and Thelma. I somehow doubt that Mabel is their natural-born daughter as that would mean that Minnie gave birth to Mabel (her first-born!) when Minnie was 48, so that's quite unlikely. Hope this helps out - check out the tree at Ancestry.com Susan ----- Original Message ----- From: "elizabeth wolfe" <newintr@gmail.com> To: <padauphi@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, February 02, 2008 4:53 PM Subject: Re: [PADAUPHI] list activity > The MACHAMER line I am researching in Dauphin County is Charles Victor > MACHAMER who married Minnie S. Looking for the specific death date of E. J. (Edward James) Stackpole. Died in 1936, according to the 2004 article re the history of the Patriot-News. "From 1901 until Stackpole's death in 1936, the Telegraph was the reflection of its editor and publisher. Succeeding him were his sons, Edward J. and Albert H., both of whom distinguished themselves in World Wars I and II." Would like a copy of E.J. Stackpole's obituary, as it should hold a wealth of family information. Donna Terrian dgterrian@earthlink.net
