    3. I am not related to any of the partied mentioned here, but I thought this might be of some genalogical interest to descendants. From the Friday, April 15, 1887 Lykens Register newspaper: "THE WILLIAMSTOWN EJECTMENT CASE -- The suit brought by Daniel UPDEGROVE, one of the heirs of John UPDEGROVE, Sr., at one time owner of fifty acres of land upon which the greater part of Williamstown is now built, against Mr. J.M. BLUM, of this borough, is a test case and will be tried next week. This is the revival of a similar action brought in 1872 by John UPDEGROVE, Sr., who has since died, against some fifty owners of property in the tract in dispute. The claim of the plaintiffs was based upon the ground that Conrad UPDEGROVE in 1853 mde a conveyance of the premises to Elizabeth UPDEGROVE, who afterward deeded the property to William WAGNER, her husband, John UPDEGROVE, Sr., not joining in the conveyance; and because the husband did not join in the deed, the plaintiffs assert that no title passed to WAGNER. The trial of the case was ably and exhaustively conducted before Judge PEARSON, a number of prominent lawyers being engaged in it. J.C. DURBIN, Esq., of this borough, was of council for the defense. On the 18th of December, 1875, a verdict was given in favor of the defendants, since which time until recently, no further attempt has been made to recover the land. No special uneasiness is felt on the part of the numerous parties at present interested, inasmuch as no idea is entertained that the plaintiff can succeed in reversing the verdict rendered in 1875. The trial will begin on Thursday afternoon." Lynne

    1. [PADAUPHI] Kopf, Kob, Kopff, Cobb, etc
    2. Barbara
    3. I would appreciate very much any help from anyone on this family. The last name may be in various forms: Kopp, Kop, Kopf, Kopff, Cobb, and so on. I've not been able to find land records, estate records, or almost anything for this family. I found one document in Dauphin County that I think 'could' be the same family. But I'm not sure. The name is spelled "Coba" I've looked in Lebanon and Lancaster Counties also, and not found anything. These people must have bought and sold land at some time, or left it to their children. Oh, there was one record from Dauphin County, Lewis Kob to John Kob, an account and seems to be dated 1848. But it's so faded that I've not been able to bring the writing up enough to read it. It seems to be a copy - as Lewis Kob states he is living in Indiana (Dudley twp? Henry Co.) And that's about all I can get from it. And if anyone wants to give reading it a try, let me know and I can e-mail it to you. I sure would appreciate any documents you run across. It would be wonderful. 1. [PADAUPHI] My Brickwall: Fanny Crum/Crumb (1832-1857)
    2. Listers, I would like your help and/or advice.  I have had a brick wall since I began researching my family history six years ago.  She is my great grandmother Fanny Crum [or possibly Crumb or Krum] who was born 23 Oct 1832 and died 20 Apr 1857 [according to her gravestone]. She is buried in the Trinity (Hill) Lutheran Church Cemetery, south of Colebrook, Lebanon Co., PA.  Her Death Notice is in the Lebanon Courier, 27 Apr 1857, p. 5, "DIED - Fanny Foltz - On the 20th Inst., of Consumption, in Lebanon, County, FANNY FOLTZ, consort of Jacob B. Foltz, aged 25 years, 3 months, 25 days [sic]."  In a search of the census records for PA, there are two women named Fanny Crum in the 1850 Census.  Both live in Upper Swatara Township, Dauphin Co., quite plausible since Jacob grew up in nearby Deodate, Conewago Twp., Dauphin, Co.,PA.  One age 17 lives in the household of Abraham Crum and is found in the same household in the 1860 census, so she is not the one [mine died in 1857].  The other is 19 and lives in the home of Joseph B. Baker and is probably a servant.  This may be the one, however, there are no clues as to the parents or siblings.  Based on family data and a visit to the gravesites, she probably married my great grandfather Jacob B. Foltz between 11 Sep 1850 and 10 May 1851 when their first child Emma was born (she died 22 Feb 1855).  They had another child, Lydia Jane, born 23 Jul 1853, died 23 Aug 1853 and my grandfather Franklin Crum(b) Foltz, born 15 Sep 1855.  Fanny died 20 Apr 1857 and Jacob died 2 Apr 1859.  All four are buried together in the Trinity (Hill) Lutheran Church Cemetery.  I found that all the records for this church and this time period were lost in a fire.  Jacob was single and a merchant in Lawn, South Londonderry Twp., Lebanon Co., PA in the 1850 census taken on 12 Sep.  He left a will making his friend Jacob Mayer guardian of Frank and his brother John Speck Foltz executor.  In 1870 and 1860 Census at ages 14 and 5, Franklin Crum(b) Foltz lived with Jacob (age 65/55) and Barbara Mayer (age 60/55).  He had a $4000 Personal Estate in 1870.  He died 2 August 1937 in Palmyra, Lebanon Co., PA.  An interesting development is finding a Fanny Crum, age 41 and Samuel Crum 9 living with Abraham Mayer 37, Mary Mayer 35, Mary C. Mayer 4, Horace Mayer 5/12, and Barbara Foltz 65 living in Lower Swatara Twp, Daupuin Co. in the 1850 census.  A theory might be that Barbara Foltz is the mother of Mary Mayer and this Fanny Crum.  This Fanny Crum could be widowed or divorced and the Mother of my Fanny Crum.  But I have found no information to prove this theory.  I am interested in knowing any information about the parents and siblings of Fanny Crum(b).  I have fairly extensive information the Foltz Family which can be found at URL: http://wc.rootsweb.com/ in Database "jffoltz" , however, the Crum family is a dead end so far. Thank you in advance for any information you might want to share or hints as to finding this information. Regards, John F. 3. >I would be particularly interested in ones around Hummelstown and >specifically the ones adjacent to the Hummelstown Historical Society. I suggest you contact the Hummelstown Area Historical Society at http://www.hummelstownhistorical.org/. They have a complete separate listings of both of these cemeteries. The cemetery listings were first published in Egle's Notes and Queries around the end of the 1800s. Egle's listings contained some errors as does any cemetery listing. The "Old" cemetery is the Zion Lutheran Church cemetery and the stones were recorded many times but, before her death, Janet Welsh worked with a committee to compile all the various listings and information, even some in German, giving the viewer all the information and the source. The listing for the "New" Hummelstown cemetery (which is at a totally different location) is also available at the Hummelstown Area Historical Society. That cemetery was founded about 1890, and is still active today, but there have been bodies exhumed and moved from other cemeteries providing dates of death that precede the founding of that cemetery. Hope this helps. Anne Hershey PA

On their web site they offer a search of their extensive genealogy records for a small fee. The URL for this is: http://www.hummelstownhistorical.org/ . 3. from the Louisa Co., VA rootsweb The Library of Virginia is pleased to announce the completion of the Legislative Petitions Database. Over 25,000 petitions were entered into the database between 2001 and 2007 and are available to search through the Library of Virginia's website at http://www.lva.lib.va.us/whatwehave/gov/petitions/. Petitions to the General Assembly were the primary catalyst for legislation in the Commonwealth from 1776 until 1865. Public improvements, military claims, divorce, manumission of slaves, division of counties, incorporation of towns, religious freedom, and taxation were just some of the concerns expressed in these petitions. The petitions often contain hundreds of signatures and are a useful tool in genealogical research. Frequently, the petitions contain supplementary support documents useful in research, including maps, wills, naturalizations, deeds, resolutions, affidavits, judgments, and other items.
