Enumerators of the 1790 census were asked to include the following categories in the census: name of head of household, number of free white males and females, number of other free persons, number of slaves, town or district and sometimes town or district of residence. Hope this helps. Pat Fisher **************Wondering what's for Dinner Tonight? Get new twists on family favorites at AOL Food. (http://food.aol.com/dinner-tonight?NCID=aolfod00030000000001)

Two of my relatives have worked for the U.S. Postal Service--one back in the late 1880s in Maryland and the other for about 50 years in Harrisburg. Where would I go to find government records on them? (If they are available.) Thanks. Nora

Company D 8th Regiment PNG was a Harrisburg based company known as "The Harrisburg City Grays". There is a book on the history of this unit. I don't know if includes WW I. The Dauphin County Historical Society has the book. Nora My grandfather was in the National Guard [N.G.] of Pennsylvania [P] also, so perhaps that's what you are seeing. He was from Lancaster, had joined the National Guard, which was called up to serve with the US Army during WW1. Sort of like what's happened lately to the National Guard and Army with the current war. My grandfather was born in 1897 and was 19 when he enlisted. I have a photo of him in uniform, as well, and we think it is from the end of boot camp before he shipped out with his unit to France. If you want, I can send you a copy of the photo to compare with what you have to see if they are similar. Some on the Lancaster list sent me a couple of ideas. One paid off: he was in the PNG (Pa.Nat'l Guard) not NGP recorded on the photo. I found his record on the PA State Archives site and got it printed out. Another piece of the family puzzle.
