I've "rescued" an old photograph of Mary CURWEN FLEMING of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania which was taken at the Bairstou Studio in Warren, PA. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1890's with Mary likely in her 30's at the time it was taken. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding Mary and her family: Mary CURWEN b. 9 Nov 1857 in Harrisburg, PA to parents John CURWEN (b. 1821 in Philadelphia, PA) and Martha Potter ELMER (b. 7 Mar 1821 in Bridgeton, NJ). Mary married David FLEMING Jr. (b. 4 May 1857 in Harrisburg, PA) on 16 Oct 1884 in Harrisburg and together they had two children, Martha Elmer born in 1889 and David FLEMING III born in 1893. Census records provide the following information: 1860 census of Susquehanna Township, PA: - at the State Lunatic Asylum John CURWIN, age 39, a Physician Superintendent, born PA Martha CURWIN, age 39, born NJ Mary CURWIN, age 2, born PA 1870 census of Susquehanna Township, PA: - at the State Lunatic Asylum John CURWIN, age 48, a Physician, born PA Martha P. CURWIN, age 48, Keeping House, born NJ Mary CURWIN, age 12, at Home, born PA 1880 census of State Lunatic Asylum, Susquehanna, PA: John W. CURWIN, age 58, a widower, born PA, a Physician, parents born PA Mary CURWIN, dau, age 22, born PA, a Lady, parents born PA 1900 census of Harrisburg, PA: David FLEMING, age 43, born May 1857, married 16 years, born PA, parents born PA, an Iron Manufacturer Mary C. FLEMING, wife, age 42, born Nov 1857, married 16 years, 2 children/2 living, born PA, parents born PA Martha E. FLEMING, dau, age 11, born Mar 1887, born PA, at School David FLEMING, son, age 7, born Apr 1893, born PA, at School + 5 servants I am hoping to locate someone from the family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

The last time I was at the State Library, many of the older Harrisburg papers that I asked for were "out" being digitized. I was told some would not be back until December. I don't know if some of the library monetary cutbacks altered this plan or the time line. On Nov 5, 2009, at 8:42 PM, David J. ask your area library if you can get an inter-library loan from Harrisburg state library. For about 4 weeks you can get 9 reels they each have about two months on each reel except for a few exceptions to find out where to find Interlibrary Loans, microfilm, etc., for each state: http://www.rootsweb.com/~rwguide/lesson20.htm Scroll way down to American Newspapers
