This may or may not be related, but I have copies of transcribed deeds from 1785 in which a sawmill, grist mill and surrounding farmland was dispersed after the death of my ancestor Michael Brown. The buyers were John Zimmerman and Jacob Kreamer. The land description in the deed describes the land as bordering upon land owned by Michael Zimmerman. The location is on Swatara Creek about 2-3 miles or so upstream from Bindnagles Church. Neil E. In a message dated 7/31/2010 6:52:04 A.M. Wonderful! No trick - - - I've never had access to full Ohio Census , have never known where they were in 1850! All I've had is the marriage date in Mt Vernon in 1843, just recently found the church and the actual record. I've been researching with a cousin for 30 years. She was doing ELLIOT and died a few years ago. I got interested this summer, determined to find more, and here you have found them in Seneca Co! Thank you so much. In the 1800 U.S. Federal Census for East Hanover township, Dauphin county, page 234 (35A), there is a Mich. Simerman and his family. The 1800 census index for Dauphin County indicates a number of Zimmermans, Simmermans, Zimermans and other variations of that name. Is anyone else researching this family name that could provide an insight into what happened to this Mich(ael) Simerman after 1800 ? The 2010 Romberger All-Family Reunion is set for Saturday, August 21. As before, it will be at the beautiful Hill Church in Berrysburg, PA where many Romberger forebears rest. This year we celebrate 257 years of Rombergers in the U.S.! The Rombergers are a well-documented family, and this year's reunion will have two historians in attendance- the past historian, Dr. John Romberger and the new one, Bob Averell. This is a wonderful opportunity to explore your own roots and ensure you're linked too. Folks are asked to bring a covered dish if possible, and if not, not to worry, there's always plenty of food. It's a beautiful place, and an occasion for fine fellowship, conversation, viewing displays, and walking the cemetery. Also, there's a lot to do in the area so you can make a weekend of it if you choose. Contact Frank Herzel today for an information packet at fherzel@aol.com or at (717) 545-6964. Whether you go this year or not, it will get you on the mailing list for updates and future invitations. This is a rare chance to have the benefit of people who truly know the family, so take a minute and get in touch. Hope to see you there!
I would greatly appreciate a will abstract or full-length transcript of the following: Peter Fitting of West Hanover tp., 1803, died testate. Casper Greiser (actually Kreiser) of East Hanover tp., 1799 (or 1805?), died testate. John Gerberich of West Hanover tp., 1805, died testate. I do have an abstract of Gerberich's testament, but a full-length transcript would be most helpful. I descend from all three men and would be delighted to share information with all interested. Fitting and Gerberich owned adjoining properties during the Revolutionary period, just over the Blue Mountain. Casper Kreiser resided in the same valley a few miles to the east.Â

I've "rescued" an old photograph of Guy W. CARLILE which was taken at the Aller's Gallery in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1880's with Guy listed as 1 year, 6 months, and 21 days old at the time it was taken. In addition to his name and age someone has also written "Hattie" on the back of the photograph as if that is the person to whom the photograph was given. Based on limited research I was able to locate some information regarding Guy and his family as follows: Guy CARLILE b. 3 Dec 1888 in Harrisburg, PA was the son of Alexander A. or W. CARLILE and Evalina or Evaline Juliet WITMER. Guy died as a very young child on 9 Jun 1891. I am hoping to locate someone from this family so that this precious old photograph can be returned to their care. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley
The Perry Historians will be hosting another of its Special Presentations - this time on Civil War Era Firearms. Did you know that disease was the leading cause of death in the Civil War? Did you know that the second leading cause of death was the famed .58 caliber "minie" ball? What were some of the nicknames soldiers gave to the imported weapons, and what was the favorite firearm of the foot soldier? These questions and more will be answered in Steve Jury's presentation entitled "Firearms of the Civil War." So come to The Perry Historians / Harry Lenig Library near New Bloomfield, Perry Co., PA. on Sunday, May 23, 2010 at 2:00 p.m., and hear Steve discuss the never ending problem of how to supply firearms for millions of soldiers, and how technology improved in firearms during the four years of the war. >From smooth bore to rifled muskets, to breech loading rim fires, Steve has it all. Many of the firearms Steve talks about will be on display for guests to view along with a demonstration on loading procedures for muzzleloaders, and a question and answer period. If the Civil War or firearms in general are of interest to you, we think you will enjoy this presentation. Light refreshments will be served following the presentation. This is FREE to all and all are welcome to attend! For more info about The Perry Historians / Harry Lenig Library visit our website: www.ThePerryHistorians.org Or contact Donna Heller Zinn at Donna@ThePerryHistorians.org
