    1. [Dauphin Co PA] Need a deed and some obits/ death records from Highspire
    2. Dora Smith
    3. I have an ancestor, Jacob Weiss/ Wise, who owned five lots where the railway station eventually went, in Highspire, by 1850. He was born in Switzerland, and his wife, Joanna/ Johanna Susanna was born in Germany, and their first child was allegedly born in Pennsylvania about 1835. I'd really like to find the deed or deeds to the property. I have a property map of Highspire showing where the property was, though I'd have to dig it out. What strategy should I pursue to getting the deeds? That isn't always a simple matter of knowing where the property was and when the people lived there. Also, he died in 1887 and the wife in 1875, any chance of any obits or death records? He died 30 May 1887, possibly not in Highspire but not far away, and Joanna/ Johanna died 3 Oct 1875. They are buried at Highspire Cemetery, and someone took photos of the graves for me, but that seems to be all the record the cemetery has. As far as I know, only two of their numerous children reached adulthood; my own 2x great grandmother, Mary, and Sarah, who married John Conklin and had five sons. (or four sons and a daughter, but I think Perley was a man.) If anyone has easy access to any of this, that would be a TRUE act of kindness. Dora

    3. Kathy, I have been researching the Books surname, with limited success. My ancestor is Cyrus Books, b. 16 July 1833 in Dauphin County, PA Died 9 July 1901 in Toledo, Chase County, Kansas. There are two Cyrus Books living at the same time in PA. Some people confuse them. I have the marriage license for mine. He was married to Susanna Sener on 2 July 1854. In that marriage, he states that his father is George and mother is Christina or possibly Christiana. His residence at the time of marriage is Port Royal, Dauphin Co. I am descended from Cyrus Books' tenth child (out of 11). Jacob J. Books Any connection? 3. I'm still looking for parents and siblings of George Snyder born June 30, 1823 in Dauphin Co. He lived in South Hanover Twp in !850 Census. Spouse was Elizabeth Hoover dau of Abram and Rebecca Hoover. Also looking for other 2 siblings of Elizabeth Hoover. I have Isaac, but there is another brother and sister listed in 1840 Census. The 1860 Census in Michigan lists a John Snyder age 60 in the George Snyder household. Is he an older brother, uncle, or cousin? Does anyone have a spouse and children for Mary Snyder (Snider) listed in the 1840 & 1830 Census of Middletown? She has a male listed in the right age range to be my George and also the John above. 3. Oberlin was originally called Churchville, and that is the name of the cemetery: Churchville Cemetery Association - (717) 939-1802 51 S Harrisburg St ,  Oberlin ,  PA   17113 -------- Original message -------- Subject: PADAUPHI Digest, Vol 7, Issue 31 From: padauphi-request@rootsweb.com To: padauphi@rootsweb.com CC: PLEASE NOTE   WHEN REPLYING TO ANY DIGEST MESSAGE, please quote ONLY the specific portion or message to which you are replying.  All the rest of the digest should be deleted before replying to the list.  Also, remember to delete the digest subject line so that it coincides with the message subject to which you are replying.  PLEASE DO NOT send an entire digest back to the list in reply, or reuse any digest subject line. some USEFUL DIGEST TIPS and suggestions to help you use the list and digest more effectively: 1.  In all but the very busiest lists, the net result of subscribing in digest mode only means that a digest subscriber will received the 1 or 2 messages in an average day up to 24 hours later than those who subscribe in list mode. 2.  In general, list mode messages can be replied to easier and with less editing than digests, and with no need to also change the subject line in most cases.  If you would like to change your digest subscription to list mode and receive each message as they are received rather than daily, then following are two ways of doing making the change:     * Unsubscribe, then subscribe again and choose list mode.  Note that you MUST UNSUB THE DIGEST FIRST, because the system will not accept a second subscription if it already finds one for the same address and list.     * If you prefer, send me a note to my official List Admin's address for this list and ask "Change me from digest mode to list mode, please."  Be sure to include the list name (I administer more than just this one) and of course the subscribed email address to change, or I may not be able to help you.  :-( 3.  By default, all digests are sent out in "plain" format, which simply means all messages for the day are received as one long message.  If you prefer receiving your daily digest in the same daily message, but WITH EACH POST FOR THE DAY AS AN ATTACHMENT rather than a single long message, then write to me at the List Admin's address for this list and ask me to "Change my digest to MIME, please."  Again, make sure you include your subscribed address and the list name as mentioned above. ------------------------------- Today's Topics:    1. cemeteries in Oberlin? 3. As far as I know, the only cemetery in Oberlin is the Oberlin Cemetery. However, there are several others not too far away - Middletown and Steelton. Happy hunting. 3. Good Mornin' Nora and Fellow Listers: I'm going to ad my 2 cents to this... it may be incorrect tho. The original map was a very large wall map. They then split the map into the townships and published the townships individually in a book.... which I think the original book pages were 13x15.5 inches.
