Good luck - I probably already looked there. But if you find them, let me know! Jacob Weiss (I've seen Wise, Weise, Weis) and Johanna Susanna. She often americanized it to Joanna Susanna. Their children, from the census, appear to have been: Sarah Elizabeth b around 1835 in Pennsylvania Harriet C. born around 1838 Mary Ann born between 1840 and 1842 Barbara Anna b about 1843 Jason born in 1848 or 1849 and apparently not living in 1860 Amanda R, likely the same person as Rejina, born about 1846 or 1848 Alice J. b about 1857 Regina/ Rejina was a rare name that if you search the census in 1870 for Dauphin County under those first names alone you come up with only a couple of names. Jacob Weiss owned a large piece of land in Highspire where the railroad tracks went. In 1870, 23-year old Regina Day and her husband, Peter Day, both allegedly born in Wurtemburg, and their infant son, born in Pennsylvania, were living next door to Jacob Weiss. However, Jacob and his wife consistently reported taht they were born respectively in Switzerland and Germany and their children were all born in the U.S. This is another marriage it would pay to find hte record of. I need to find the marriage record of two people who came from Germany and Switzerland, who had their first child allegedly in Pennsylvania around 1835, and who lived in Lower Swatara Township, possibly in Highspire, by the 1840 census. Is tehre any database where the marriage would be listed, or do I request a search from the Pennsylvania Health Department, or what? Noone really knows what church they attended, but it may ahve been some really radical Evangelical sect. Yours, Dora Smith Austin, TX tiggernut24@yahoo.com
How would I get the naturalization records of two people who were apparently in the U.S. and married by 1835, and who teh Census shows lived in Highspire and Lower Swatara from 1840? One was born in Switzerland and the other in Germany. I do not know where they arrived in this country, but they would have been living in Dauphin County by the time they applied for naturalization. Yours, Dora Smith Austin, TX tiggernut24@yahoo.com
Sorry, I looked under Brandt, Brand and Brant
What were their names? There is a database on-line at Ancestry.com for early German Pa marriages which I could check out for you. Sue
Thank you, Suzanne Fred Frantz

Ray, The book you refer to may be 'A Comprehensive History of the Town of Gratz Pennsylvania' put out by the Gratz Historical Society. As far as I know it is still available from the Society. My paternal great grandmother, Ann Jane Shive, was born in Gratz in 1823. I would greatly appreciate someone checking the index of the Gratz history to see if that family is listed. Thanks much! I AM VERY sorry. He helped me several times with important pieces of information and like so often I had put off inviting him to see my research as I believe we had some distant family connections. He will be greatly missed on my part. Can someone talk to his family and pass on our expressions of sorrow?
