    3. Hi Dora, I don't suppose you are related to the William E. SMITH families that were in Dauphin and Union Counties etc about 1835-1960??? His daughter, Anna Estelle SMITH (1879-1957 ) married my cousin Rev. Dorsey Newton MILLER (1876-1938). I would love to find any living descendants from that family to see if we wouldn't have information & pictures to share. Thanks. 2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph identified as Annie MORROW which was taken at the John D. Lemer Studio in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1880's with Annie likely in her 30's at the time it was taken. In addition to her name, someone has written "Charles HAVERTE'S or HOVERTE'S Sister" on the back of the photograph. Based on limited research I believe I may have located Annie along with her husband and children in census records as follows: 1900 census of Harrisburg, PA: Herbet MORROW, age 43, born Sept 1856, married 19 years, born PA, parents born PA, a Cigar Manufacturer Annie E. 3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Elsie HOFFMAN and Lib DOCKERTY which was taken at the W. & H. I. Marlatt Studio in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The photograph is dated 1890 with the two girls appearing to be in their teens at the time the photograph was taken. Based on limited research I believe that I was able to locate the following information regarding Elsie: Elsie HOFFMAN b. about 1877 in Dauphin Co. PA to parents John H. HOFFMAN and Mary SWAB I'm hoping to locate someone from their families so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to the care of family. 3. This is interesting as My Powell line in Wales lists John b.1844 as 7 years old in the 1851 Wales Census living with the family in Aberystruth. 1861 has John b.1844, Living in Bedwelty, Ebbw Vale Wales with the family. I have his brother Elias Benton b. 1837 and Elizabeth b.1834 in America in 1854 living in Ironton, Ohio. (orbit) the name "Paul" could be the result of the family not being able to read or write English and is what the recorder thought how it was spelled. Back to the paper records to see where the problem is in the Genealogy program. Thanks for all the help and getting me back on the right track. Too many Powells out their!!!!! I used to feel so grown up being allowed to go to that little store with my cousins when we visited. :-) If I'm wrong and it wasn't Bealor's, what was it called back then? 1. Re: [PADAUPHI] Dauphin Co Bios 1896: BEALOR

    3. Oh, fiddle, I'll just do it now. BEALOR - page 1104 This information (condensed) is from a bio of Nathaniel Miller on page 1103 whose 2nd wife was Elmira Bealor (they married 11 Sep 1883 in Perry county), widow of William Smith. It says that she was born in Juniata twp in Perry county, 28 April 1849, a daughter of David and Margaret (Smith) Bealor. Nathaniel Miller and 2nd wife Bealor have one child, Ida Mary Miller, born 18 Sep 1884. The grandfather of Elimira Bealor was Max Bealor who was a native of Berks county where he grew to manhood. He married and removed to Perry county, settling in Markelsville where he died in 1850. His wife, Catherine Keiser, survived him 15 years. Their children (surnamed Bealor) were: 1) Mrs. Susan McDowell (died before 1896); 2) John died at age 55 before 1896; 3) David, died before 1896; 4) Margaret, died before 1896, wife of James G. Blaine; 5) Sallie, died in girlhood; 6) Catherine, died in girlhood; 7) Joseph, died before 1896; 8) Mary, maiden lady, died in 1892; 9) Benjamin F., died at Markelsville at an advanced age 22 Jun 1896. NOTE: I have put that they died before 1896 (when book was published) as the book just says 'deceased' and at least the 1896 gives you a point at which to go backwards from (if you get my drift). The father of Elmira Bealor was David Bealor (a son of Max Bealor). He was born in Brecknock twp in Berks county coming to Perry county with his parents when he was aged 12. He received just 2 weeks' schooling and had to walk 12 miles to school when he did go! At the age of 16 he learned the trade of masonry and followed that trade until his marriage at which time he bought a farm on which he lived during the remainder of his life. He died in 1876 in his 83rd year. His wife, Margaret Smith was a native of Perry county and she died in 1888 at age 81. There children (surnamed Bealor) were: 1) Sarah, died in 1895. Her 1st husband was George W. Titzel and her 2nd husband was John Christ; 2) John C., farmer in Blaine, Perry county; 3) Catherine (Mrs William Sausaman of Harrisburg); 4) Elisabeth (Mrs George Ernst of Washington twp); 5) Lydia, maiden lady, Harrisburg; 6) Elmira (Mrs. Nathaniel Miller's 2nd wife - Elmira's 1st husband, William Smith, died in Newport, Pa. in 1877. He was born in Perry county. Children from Elmira's 1st marriage (surnamed Smith were: Martha Calista (wife of Harry C. Swab) and George B. Smith, a farmer in Illinois); 7) Martha, maiden lady, Harrisburg. Margaret Smith, the mother of Elmira Bealor was descended for English stock. Her parents were Daniel and Catherine (Ketner) Smith. Hope this all helps out, Sue

    2. Sue
    3. Hi Dottie; Will get back to you shortly - there are 2 Bealor bios on page 1104. They haven't been transcribed yet if you check the Maley.net page. If you go to the Dauphin county site, you can see the index of names in the book, then you can see if the names you are interested in have been transcribed. About 1/2 have yet to be transcribed. So, as in your case, your name request hasn't been transcribed yet (at least I can't see it), so will get back to you by the end of the day. Anyone else wanting a bio from this book, best to check the index page for this book at the Dauphin website, and if found, then check to see if it's one of the ones already transccribed and on-line. If not, contact me with name and page number and I'll look it up for you. Thanks, Sue

    1. [PADAUPHI] Mary Snyder/Snider, Middletown, 1830-1840
    2. ROBERT C SNYDER
    3. My current research is focused on Mary Snyder (Snider) listed in Middletown in the census years of 1830 and 1840. She has a son listed of the right age range to be my great grandfather George Snyder born June 1823 in PA. If Mary is indeed the mother of my George, then George has a brother near his age (5-10 in 1830), a brother 8-13 years older than George, and another brother 13-23 years older than George. The John Snyder, age 60, listed in my George's 1860 Michigan household fits a son of Mary listed as age 20 - 30 in Mary's 1830 household. The 1850 Census of Middletown lists a Simon Snyder household, Simon age 25, which would fit as a younger brother of my George. George is 27 in 1850. Questions: 1) Was Mary born in Germany? 2) What was her husband's name and was he born in Germany? 3) Did Mary have a son George born in 1823? 4) Was the 1860 John Snyder, age 60, also Mary's son? Does anyone have information on this family? Bob in MI
