Does anyone share this family? John LYON m. Margaret Agnes STEWART (she was born Dauphin, April 8, 1796). One of their children was Jane Alice LYON, and she married Bucher AYRES. I am beginning to find *lots* out about Bucher AYRES, and will soon be getting a photograph of him, and one of Jane Alice Lyon AYRES. I am interested in learning a bit more about the STEWARTs. Soon I will be getting a book by Bucher AYRES and Minnehaha FINNEY (getaloadadatname!) on the Stewart Family. Vince Summers

Correction to my last query. Hugh Price was indeed a Philadelphia policeman in the early half of the 20th century and I do need information on him. However, it was Wilson C. Price who lived in Hummelstown and was a Major in the PA State Police. Wilson was one of the organizers of the PA State Highway Patrol. He was a 33rd degree or higher Mason, was born Aug 13, 1884 in Ireland and died July 4, 1937, buried in Harrisburg. He married Rebecca Oct 21, 1933.. He had a son Walter Price, (b 3/1/1909, d Dec 1987, Delaware. Walter was also a PA State Policeman. Anyone have more information on Wilson? It's a long shot in this county, but anyone know anything about Hugh? -- John

I'm seeking information on Hugh Price, who was a Philadelphia policeman who later became a Pennsylvania State policeman and reportedly lived in Hummelstown. The time from was sometime in the first half of the 20th century. Anybody know anything about him, or where I might go to find out? Could the State Police help? Whom would I contact? -- John
Can anyone tell me what the german for "twin" would be? Thanks. Laura

This Charles Hartman was a shoemaker and then a shoe dealer in Millersburg, PA. He was born in Philadelphia on July 3, 1820 and is buried in plot 3678 7Q in West Lawn Cemetery, in Canton, Ohio, with his wife Ann Jane Shive. He is reported to have been the first son of one John Penrose of Philadelphia who had several other sons by his second wife. He (Charles) was supposed to have been raised by his aunt Eliza Freck who was born in Philadelphia in September of 1804 and died in Millersburg PA on Jan. 10, 1892 and is buried in Oak Hill cemetery in Millersburg. A partial, undated copy of a newspaper article from a Harrisburg or Millersburg newspaper shows: "Mrs. Eliza A. Freck passed peacefully to her long-sought rest, after midnight on Saturday. For some years, Mrs. Freck bore the honored distinction of the oldest resident of this borough, having celebrated her eighty-seventh birthday last August. Deceased was a native of Philadelphia, whose husband died here nearly a quarter century ago. She reared a large family, of whom four sons and a daughter survive the aged mother. Before the weight of years hung heavily upon her, she was noted in the community for her liberality and kindness to the poor and many deeds of charity. Those who knew the deceased in her days of usefulness speak only in highest praise of her superior intelligence, good deeds and many virtues. Her remains were deposited in Oak Hill cemetery Tuesday afternoon, under a spotless mantle of pure white snow, to await the call on the resurrection morn. The funeral services were in the Lutheran Church in charge of Rev. B.F. Kautz, assisted by Rev. J. A. Feger, G. M. Brodhead and T. Derr, and were of a peculiarly sad and impressive character. " Mrs. Freck's maiden name was Penrose, a descendant of a large and influential Philadelphia family, grand-daughter of Col. Joseph Penrose of Revolutionary fame. On her mother's side she descended from the Pratt family, who were among the early settlers of the City of Brotherly Love, and owners of a large tract of land and suburban property, covering all that territory now included in Fairmont Park. For a period of over fifty years she resided in this borough, including twenty-four years of her widowhood." I am looking for any information about the several names listed in the subject and, especially, a complete copy of the Obituary partially quoted above. If possible I would like to obtain a copy of the death certificate for Eliza Freck. Of course any information about other names listed in the subject line above would be appreciated.

Guidelines for posting to subject line and email message Lets use some guidelines when posting messages to the list( subject line. Subject line of the message should contain: Surname, place and or date you are researching, then if others are not interested they can delete. In the message part of your email, please enlarge on what you put in your subject line, such as: Subject Line: Does anyone have (specific surname) , abt. 1850. This is all an example. Then email message part would give the surname the date, place, and perhaps a specific event that you are looking for. Lets have a good time, and make some connections. Nadine Hensley List Owner
