    3. Are these just for a Pennsylvania Railroad Line, or for all railroad lines in Pennsylvania? I had a 3X great grandfather, Jacob Weiss/ Wise, was a ticket agent at the Highspire Railroad Station; somehow or other he also, probably from before the railroad was built as he owned it in 1850 census, owned five lots of property on the railroad tracks about a block from the station. He was a weaver of rugs or carpets (census confirms this), and he had his loom set up at the railroad station, and wove while working. It must have been quite a sight! He was born in Switzerland, and his wife was born in Germany. Further, he may have been River Brethren. Both just past the turn of the century. In Pennsylvania by 1830 but not in Highspire in 1840. I further understand that the railroad company came to own all those houses. I'd really like to find whatever records the railway company kept of all this! 1. [PADAUPHI] Hannah KOCHER circa 1830
    2. Hi everyone, I am trying to find information on the family of Hannah KOCHER. The little information that I have on her follows... Hannah KOCHER was born circa 1830 per the 1850 census (I don't particularly trust this date) In 1850 Hannah and her husband Daniel HENRY were living in Wiconisco Twp., Dauphin Co. with their 2 sons Jacob and John HENRY. [While living in Wiconisco Twp. Hannah and Daniel were surrounded by RICKERTS. I have since found out, from the kind souls on this list, that all of these Rickerts were brothers. One of the Rickert brother's daughters married a gentleman by the last name of BURD that sponsored Hannah and Daniel's son Jacob's baptism.] Jacob and John Henry both enlisted at Pottsville and served in Co A. 50th PA Infantry during the Civil War. Jacob was killed in action at the Battle of Wilderness and, thanks to yet another kind soul, I've found out that there is mention of Jacob's death in the records of Friedens Church (Clauser's Union) which suggests that they were living in Schuylkill Co. during the war. I haven't yet had a chance to check the 1860 census for the area. I have however scoured the 1850 census and found quite a few KOCHER families in both Dauphin Co. and Schuylkill Co and am hoping that someone may know which one Hannah may belong to. If anyone could point me in the direction of some other area KOCHER researchers I would really appreciate it. Sorry to be so long winded, Kristin

Obtaining information in our genealogy research sometimes takes us down paths we sometimes least expect...In our hunt for Military information, it is possible one of them can help you....So I invited you to visit the following Web Site, bearing in mind that we have a total of 34 states with over 104 members who have email addresses. But the best part, is that we have over 1500 members of V.U.M.S. (Veterans of underage Military Service).....Maybe one of these members is YOUR RELATIVE..... They have published a book containing 199 members who enlisted BEFORE THEY were 17 yrs old (16 and under with the youngest 12). Even one who is not 96 yrs old now....DID YOU KNOW THAT AndrewJackson, President of the US was only 13 when he served in the Military reaching the Rank of Major General..... 2. I am not researching Taits, but I do have many roots in Williamstown, Dauphin Co. I would be happy to check the census index for any Taits, if you like. I have access to the PA census, as I work at the State Library in PA, but would have to check on my lunch hour. I won't have time this week and will be away on vacation next week and will unsubscribe from the list for that time period. Let me know if you have already checked all the PA census. There is also a historical society inWilliamstown. It's small and I rather doubt they can do any checking for you as they are only open on Mondays 10-2-but who knows. Their number is 717-647-9220. My e-mail at work is kchila@state.pa.us.

    3. Is anyone familiar with the Salem Family in Tower City and most particularly, Maggie Salem, b. about 1879, who married David Thompson about 1908 and lived in Williamstown. David Thompson had a clothing store there. They had two children: Lawson Thompson b. about 1915 and Isabella, born after the 1920 Census. I also don't know what happened to either Lawson or Isabella. Will appreciate any information on the Thompson children and also on Maggie Salem - her parents, siblings, baptism, etc. Jane, Daytona Beach, FL mjfour@mindspring.com

    3. I am trying to find out what happened to James Tait, born Co. Durham, England, in Oct., 1869 to James and Mary Davison Tait. He had a twin, Agnes, who was in Pueblo, CO on the 1900 Census. Last I know of the son, James, he was on the tax assessment list in Williamstown in 1894. Did he marry? Did he move away? His oldest brother and family had moved to CO about 1890? Anyone researching Taits I have a great deal of information on all the family except the twins, James and Agnes. Also have a fair bit of information from England on the family. 2. Dora Smith
    3. I'd better post this where others and I myself can find it; Tim Riker's Riker family history page covers two New York Riker families and a single southeastern Pennsylvania Richter become Ricker and Riker famliy that left descendants in Ohio, and in Chestnut Level, in Lancaster County, PA. A few miles from the Maryland border; members of this family could at times have strayed into both Cecil County, and the country immediately below York County, PA. Chestnut Level appears to be in Drumore township. About 12 miles north is Safe Harbor, in Conestoga township, which is immediately north of Drumore township - I think. It isn't easy to make out details on those online topographical maps! http://riker.dsl.inconnect.com/riker.htm Riker family history Yours, Dora Smith __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? 2. Crawford
    3. Hello list, I am trying to narrow down my husband's Crawford line in Pennsylvania. We only know his GGGG Grandfather, James Crawford was born 3 Apr 1789 in PA. We do not know his parents or any other family members. He married Abigail Vest in 1810 then came to Morgan Co., Ohio. I am in the process of looking through the 1790 census of PA to find Crawford families who had a male under the age of 16. It would help to eliminate any family that one of you may recognize as one of yours. If anyone would recognize any of the families listed below as their's would you please contact me. I am listing only a few at a time so that it will be more manageable, and also I am still in the process of looking through the 1790 census on line. 1. [PADAUPHI] RIKER, RICKERT, RICHART, etc of Harrisburg, 1830-70
    2. Dora Smith
    3. I am interested in any information about Riker/ Rickert/ Richert/ Reichert etc family of Harrisburg in the 1830-1850 census. There are many ways of spelling this name. They proliferated faster than would have been possible given the two or so of them who were there by 1830, and John Sr's and Jr's proliferated the most exponentially quickly. I suspect that some of them were sons of John Riker/ Richart of Cecil County, Maryland in the 1830 census, and that their presence in Harrisburg accounts for how a son of their sister, who married Thomas Moore of southern Chester County, PA, ended up in the Harrisburg area, his father having apparently died, or else beamed back to the mother ship, before he was ten.
