Hi Cricket, We were discussing some of these stories about a year ago or so I think it was! There are quite a few...............there's one about a headless ghost who was a railroad man that lost his head in a tragic accident in Stony Valley! I'll look and see if I still have them......probably not though and I'm afraid I don't remember them anymore.....or maybe this will get everyone else started! Hi, I know this is a little off topic but I am looking for ghost stories or hauntings in the area. We are developing a website devoted to anything pennsylvania. We are having a hard time coming across stories for the harrisburg, lebanon, and surrounding areas. All names will be kept secret if thats what you desire. I have belonged to this list a long time and have never asked for any help before. So if you do please send it to D7cricket2000@yahoo.com. Thank you so much for your time:) cricket
Michael Bum is also my ancestor. His father was John Bum b. 1787 d. 1839. He married a Miss Nancy ( Ann) Baum. Yes, her maiden name was also Baum. You are a descendant of Adam Baum, the pioneer, who came over from Germany in 1744. John Baum's father was Michael Baum, b. 1755 d. 1795. and Michael's father was Adam Baum. Adam married Verionica Gingrich. Have lots of info. You can e-mail me. I noticed the Kaylor name, which I' m familiar with. My direct descendants come down from Adam, Michael (b.1755), John, Michael (b. 1814), Michael (b. 1845), Harry Keiper Baum b. 1880, and finally my father Harry McCurdy Baum b. 1912. Please contact me. Thanks, Connie Mariepag@aol.com
I know there are probably a lot of us out here who could use some good advice like this from some "old hands" at this research stuff. Please respond to the list. Linda S. HI, I am looking for George and Elizabeth Rider. I feel certain they were in Dauphin County in the late 1700s. I have found two George Riders on census for 1790. What other places can I look? Where/who can I write to or call to ask? I understand churches would be a good place to look for birth/death records. How do you find them? Are there any good reference books for this area? I haven't got the slightest idea how to conduct a good, thorough, search at this point. Are there any libraries that can help? Thanks, Lisa Rider Shindlebower

I'll pass this along to Richard Beil, who is trying to get more information on his BOOKS ancestors. My only connection with the BOOKS is the data I put into my cemetery inscriptions, then tying them together here in Londonderry Township, Dauphin County, PA. I had a brief record of Private Jacob Books, who somehow died in the Civil War in Louisville, Kentucky (1862) by one of his own men as the result of an accident of some kind. Think I'll follow up on that story, since it may prove interesting. BOOKS family researcher "Richard Beil" <beilfamely@home.com may be interested in more of your family tree. On Bumgardner...does anyone have a Catherine or Margaret near the Schuylkill Co. line in Upper Dauphin Co.?
Joe Evans Can't help with your George Bumgardner, but I would be interested in his ancestry. My Bumgarners started in PA with Amon who immigrated in 1775 and moved south to NC. Have you traced George back to the old country? Do you have an Amon? (snip, snip) Richard: A bit of history: The GEYER's assembly of people met in Londonderry Township back in the early 1800s, and shared homes for meeting places. A cemetery currently located on the Sunset Golf Course here in LONDONDERRY Township is BELIEVED to be the burial ground of this congregation, one of whom is Pvt. Jacob R. Books. At a later date (I haven't fully researched) a church was built in the community of HILLSDALE, the roads currently being designated HILLSDALE and GEYER's CHURCH ROADS, here in Londonderry Township. This second cemetery of the GEYER'S UNITED BRETHREN Church at present contains some 10 or 12 BOOKS family members. At a later date the church merged, and is now called the GEYER'S UNITED METHODIST CHURCH. You mentioned one BOOKS ancestor (?) having a business here in LONDONDERRY TOWNSHIP. I checked an old map listing property owners here, but couldn't find any BOOKS residences listed on that particular map. If I encounter anyone researching the BOOKS family locally, I'll be sure to keep you informed. Hello, I just came across a photo of William Thompson on Ebay and wondered if anyone was researching the Thompson name in Harrisburg, PA. According to the description, the photo was taken in Harrisburg, and the child's name is written on the back of the photo. I have no interest in the photo, but I thought I would pass it on in hopes that someone on the list is researching the name. You need only follow the link. http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=534519053 Coleen
