    1. [PADAUPHI] George North
    2. Paul North
    3. I am trying to find information on a George NORTH who lived in Dauphin County in 1790. He is listed in the 1790 census as George NOOL and also had a brother living nearby by the name of Jacob North (census shows Jacob NORTILE). George was confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church, Stouchsburg in 1779. He was the son of Daniel and Anna Margaret North. I cannot find any record of George's marriage (wife unknown) or record of the birth of his first seven children (David, George, John, Sarah, Mary, Susanna and Elizabeth). Around 1796 the family moved to Washington County, Maryland and they are found in the 1800 census in Washington County. Any help would be appreciated. Paul North

Thanks Paul Pell ::}~ Knowing a wee bit more about your Henry Shell would have helped. Egle's Notes were published in 13 volumes, and I presume each have pages numbered 90-97. A Henry Shell was listed as residing in Londonderry Township around 1777. A Henry Shell was listed as a Tavernkeeper in 1783. No other details on any Henry Shell. Regaards, Charlie Fies

Buck, Social Science Researcher Just got back from a picture-taking session in Geyer's Church Cemetery, and got fair shots of Wm & S. Alice's obelisk. It was difficult to make out several years ago, and didn't get any better since then. The photos are over 100 KB, but if you want them, I'll be glad to shoot them off to you. Incidentally, nearly all the other surnames you mention above are buried in the same general area of Geyer's Cemetery; about Rows 18 through 20, right along Hillsdale Road and the access road into the cemetery. If it hadn't been raining, I would have shot them all. Regards, Charlie Fies

Buck, Social Science Researcher - RESI - Towson University First things first - The tombstones were recorded several years ago by a team (Zeigler, Huss and others), and where they could not determine with certainty the engravings, placed a question mark, such as in both Alice and William's case. Stick by your date as recorded in the bible, because the stone can not be accurately read. And what you see on the Cemetery Records is what I got from them. The caretakers/gravediggers are part-time workers, and do not keep records other than the actual graves; sometimes Funeral Directors are mentioned. I've gotten a single response from one of them after numerous queries, and reviewed what records they keep. Also, the Cemetery Association does NOT keep family records on the people buried there. Your best source would be the church records from which the relative was buried, and I do not know if anyone has transcribed them (presuming it was Geyer's Church, but not necessarily so). Throughout this community there are many cases where the mother died in childbirth, and the surviving child was raised by brothers and sisters, aunts, uncles, church members, close friends, or whoever happened to take over. Frequently the surname of the family 'adopting' the child was used, and now try to follow that line! I've been tracking down one 'relative' through a chain of mothers dying in childbirth, and STILL don't know the right name to look for! Have fun, in spite of the rain. - Charlie Fies

Your Inbox (or maybe Trash Bin) should contain at least half a dozen references to sources of Egle's CD, including direct from FTW (Family Tree Maker for Windows). Regards, Charlie Fies

    1. Re: [PADAUPHI] Inquiry about EGLE's Notes & Queries
    2. This is really too funny. A while ago, I wrote FTM and told them they really needed to revamp if they were going to stay viable in today's genealogy market. That they needed to make grassroots changes, and I specifically told them what changes I thought they needed to make and why. It is too much to think this is the response. Most likely, my letter was canned. But I did try to be as sincere as possible, and was very lengthy and specific. Who knows? Maybe someone heard. Naaah! Anyway, in my estimate, they are trying to gain ground they have lost through multiple ownership changes, and the power moves Ancestry has made. So I suspect they are switching to subscriptions, and intend to fly the CD market out the window, dropping it altogether. One cannot give free lookups from subscriptions quite as easily. It takes a lot of work, and discourages massive lookups for free. Also, it lowers overhead. No manufacturing necessary for subscriptions. Not to waste the list's time, I just had to write about this coincidence, and to say it is likely a move by the former Broderbund, to keep from going down like the Titanic.
