I can also help but also the cards would have to be sent to me. I have relatives there too. Bob was most helpful when I visited there. Karl, I write software and have written it myself. So far looks like 3 people willing to help. Karl, I have a software program that allows different people to record a cemetery, then it creates a single consolidated database for placement on the web. If there are volunteers with laptops, perhaps a project could get started. If someone has the photographer book which gives the current address for old studios, please look up the following (I have some unidentified pictures): Lemer Photography, Webster & Corydon Sts, Bradford, PA and Burnite, 1221 Ridge Ave, Harrisburg, PA. Thank you in advance.
I thought about recording this cemetery myself, but felt large of a project for one person. If anyone is interested in doing it, I would be willing to help.. Karl http://hometown.aol.com/dfox1943/myhomepageindex.html Cemeteries of Dauphin County PA - 2000 -- Karl J. Fox
Milt: Have good news for you !!! I just returned from Juniata County. I have the marriage liscense for Samuel Tressler & Harriet Krug,1883 -- Charlie Jones & Mary C. Krug, 1895 -- John A. Krug and Elmira Meredith, 1897 -- and George E. Krug and Maggie Paden, 1899. Will put them in the mail today. When you receive these take notice to place of marriage for Samuel Tressler and Harriet Krug -- Residence of George Krug, Esq. in Walker Twp.!! Karl
Amen to your suggestions!!!! I live in a state where I have no ancestors so I do my research by mail or internet. I am currently employed but one of my retirement projects is to volunteer to do online data input from microfilm. There are so many helpful researchers on the lists that I belong to, people who have done look-ups both from the books/CD's in their possession and from the physical location of the record. I feel obligated to pay my dues however I can. Sue, I have a Jacob Garman/German (1797-1868) m Elisabeth Brightbill (1804-1868). Both are found in records of Shoop's Church. Elisabeth was a daughter of Henry Brightbill and Mary Elisabeth Harper (from the Harper family of Harper's Tavern, E Hanover Twp, Lebanon Co.) I have no siblings for Jacob, but do have children, if you are interested. Judy Strickler pblls@aol.com

I admire anybody for wanting to take on the task of putting cemetery records on-line as it helps others too.. I wished I lived in the area and was computer savy, I'd try to do something like this..I'm sure there must be computer savy volunteers out there in the Harrisburg area that you might enlist their help. Why not contact the cemetery office and make an offer. Maybe somebody has already started putting them on to computer..and could use some help..Oberlin Cemetery's caretaker is trying to do the same thing. I know that these cemeteries must be swamped with genealogist asking for information on burials..I don't object to paying a reasonable fee for a lot of names..but for one look-up of one name..it is a little steep.. I just paid $9 for 2 obits from Reading Public Library. One obit I had exact date but the other I only had the month and year from SSDI..It was expensive but it was cheaper than me going there, since I live in Maryland, about 30 miles from WashDC. I wish some congress rep. would present a bill before congress to require the funeral directors to update their records on-line once a month and make it available to the public on a web site..like Vital Records. Even if Vital Records had a subscription fee, to make the records accessible..Just a thought!
Judy et al: Please don't be discouraged and give up without trying. While some 30,000 seems like a lot and a formidable job, it isn't impossible. In addition to placing many smaller cemeteries on various pages, I prepared GEYER'S HILLSDALE Cemetery, consisting of over 2,700 burials, in about a months time, then spent many months touching it up and adding photos as genealogists asked details about certain families. Take a look at what I managed to do with that cemetery in short order: http://home.att.net/~charliefies/GeyerCem.html Regards, with regrets to Netscape6 users (what a mess!) THe name address and phone # are correct. The caretakers name is Bob. He is very friendly and helpful and the records, as mentioned before are in the basement. I talked to him several weeks ago, and asked about putting the records on the computer. He said that there were close to 30,000 cards. Anyone undertaking this will have several years of work. Yes, they have all the records in that building. It is quite a nice building inside. I guess they had to board up the windows in order to avoid broken windows, since there are a lot of children in the area. The times I have gone, I have been lucky enough to find the caretaker on the grounds, and there have been times that I have waited for him to return from lunch. I told him the names I was looking for, and he took me into the huge file cabinets that store the records. He found the locations, gave me a map and directions, and I was on my way to finding the tombstones. I would hate to think how many records there actually are, because yes, that place is huge. Many prominent people from Harrisburg are buried there. I hope this helps. Oh my goodness. 25.00 for one, I'll be out of luck to want to put it all on line, cost me a zillion dollars. It is truly big. Judy

My experience has been that they do have their own records and hope to computerize them someday. One more thing I would like to mention is that the caretaker is quite helpful in finding records if you stop by and ask. If you call, they charge 25.00 for a lookup, according to the machine that answers the call.
