Young had a brother Col. James Young, both of CIVIL WAR times. It was only yesterday (March 21st) that I was able to tie Samuel to James, through Col. James Young's obit in the Middletown Journal. They also had two sisters, Mrs. Sarah Young Hubley and Mrs. Lena (?) Young Miller Samuel's obit was mis-headed, stating Mrs. Samuel Young, and I nearly missed it. He lived in Steelton, moved out of Pennsylvania and lived in Nebraska for some time, then died on Chamber Hill Road while visiting a son there December 24, 1898. > My Sam did not stay in PA long as he served with the VA malitia at the > battle of King's Mountain in the fall of 1880. > Would you have any info or connections to Capt Samuel Young or any of > this line? > > Thanks > J. Ray Young I have no details on Samuel's family other than his direct connection to my wife Katie's aunt Alice Young Wealand. His cemetery stone doesn't give too many details, other than his Civil War connection. -- Regards, with regrets to Netscape6 users (what a mess!) William Hunter was born in Giles County ca. 1793. His parents were Robert Hunter and Millie Atkins. William Hunter married Barbara Lugar, daughter of Adam Lugar (revolutionary) and Anna Margaret Clapp, on May 5, 1823. They moved to Kanawha County ca. 1830 after the birth of Samuel. William set up a saw mill on the property at Elk-Two Mile. William died December 17, 1862 and Barbara subsequent. Both are buried at the original family plot now known as "old Hunter cemetery". This site rests at the foot of Hunter Hill. The markers are now illegible. The grandson of William, James Garfield Hunter, known as Garfield, set up a new burial site atop Hunter Hill for family members and their families. Hunter cemetery can be seen by taking Greenbriar Road (toward the airport) to Rutledge Road. Make a right turn on Rutledge Road and continue to Hunter Road. Make a left turn onto Hunter road and continue until you go up the hill to a stop sign. The road either goes left or right. The cemetery rests at that intersection on the right. 1. Re: [PADAUPHI] File On CLAPP
    2. Elida
    3. CLAPP is an old Chester Co. name. 50 years ago there was a family by that name still living in Chester Co. on a dirt road just off Sugartowmn Rd. in East Whiteland Twp. They were well-to-do, and fine people. I have 6 children for this couple. Isaac was the son of Christian Coble and his wife, Elizabeth Hoffer. Isaac owned several farms, including the one that was located (and removed) to build the Middletown High School. I wrote a book in 1986 on the Hoffer Family (with two Updates since that time) and in the original book there are about 10 pages that cover Isaac and Nancy and their children and their families. Although I do not have any photos of Isaac & Nancy, I did include a picture of the large farm (where the Middletown High School is now) as well as the house that Isaac built and later went to his son Frederick. If you are interested, I could photo copy those pages and mail to you but would need a snail mail address and ask for re-imbursement of copy costs & postage. Wishing you luck in your research, Audrey (in Elizabethtown, PA)
