    2. Could anyone tell me from what counties Dauphin was formed and when? Was Lancaster one of them? What was the likelihood of someone from Lancaster County (around Maytown) marrying someone from Middletown, Dauphin Co.? I have a George Barr (1779-1830) of Maytown marrying (June 26 1803) a Catherine McCann (born - two dates in family bible - 9 Jan 1785 and 9 Jan 1783). In researching Catherine I found a Catherine McCan bapt 30 Jan 1785 in Middletown. I wonder whether this could be the Catherine who married George Barr? Any help would be appreciated. If you click on Upper County, you''ll see Jackson Township. http://maley.net/atlas/ Fisherville (Enders) is in Jackson Township, and Jackson Township is right next to Halifax Township. This link shows that Jackson is a 2nd class township that was formed out of Halifax Township in 1828: http://maley.net/dauphin/townshiphistory.htm Hope this information is helpful, Rae In a message dated 2/3/04 4:01:16 AM Eastern Standard Time, [email protected] writes: David, Thank you for the information about Lebanon County. I spoke to someone there and there is clearly a bit of confusion as to where this belongs. The diarist mentions going to Halifax to have breeches cut -- and I gather Halifax is in Dauphin County. According to information I found on a Web site, the diarist's parents may be buried in an Enders Cemetery -- and I gather that is in Dauphin County, too. The 1870 and 1880 census records in which I found the teacher state that he was in Jackson Twp, Dauphin County, in (near?) Lykens -- and Lykens is in Dauphin County. I believe I was also told that Jackson Twp became part of Lebanon County long before these censuses were done. I think I will e-mail a transcription of the diary to both county historical societies and see if we can determine exactly in which county this belongs. Thanks for the help.
