    3. It would be my great grandfather so I could ask him why he moved the family to MO and then back to Lycoming County, PA a few years later. Also I would ask him who his parents were and why his son did know who they were. 3. Hello Marcia, My initial response on the ListServ was intended to be tongue-in-cheek. The person who posted the question about meeting a chosen ancestor responded to my initial posting. My second message was supposed to go only to her. I owe the whole list an apology for unwittingly sending my second message out to all subscribers. I owe them all an apology, but I feel it is best not to post an apology on the list and just let the matter rest. I am having some fascinating and very enjoyable conjectures about what we would talk about and what we would choose to show to each other. Just think, we would have to priortize what we would talk about and do with each other, and it would be a very difficult to decide what should be covered first! I know from the personal property inventory after the 1838 death of our immigrant ancestor, Johannes Zulauf, that seven generations back he kept bees, horses, pigs, cows, etc., had a large apple orchard, had hunting equipment, repaired shoes, raised wheat, hay, oats, corn, barley, and clover seed, etc., etc. I find it amazing that my grandfather and my father and I were all involved in the same agrarian style of life and engaged specifically in all the above mentioned activities of my 4th ggfather, known to me from the property inventory. It's fascinating to realize that for seven generations the men in the family handed down from father to son these activities. I bet old JZ would swell up with pride if he knew he had progeny following so closely in his footsteps for seven generations! And wouldn't his eyes pop at my TV, computer, air conditioner, and sport coupe! Best wishes, Nelson ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////// ----- Original Message ----- From: "Houston" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, April 13, 2004 3:40 PM Subject: Re: [PADAUPHI] QUESTION > I don't know Nelson, your like me and are thinking to hard on this question. > My house is a mess so I think I take the walk to my ancestor's house. 3. Rhoda, Would Margaret be the Smith, Maggie, w/Jeremiah, b. May 28, 1837, d. Apr. 17, 1886, buried in the Old Union Cemetery? Is it possible he was in the Civil War and died? I happen to be looking through the Civil war card file on line at http://www.digitalarchives.state.pa.us/ and there are several Jeremiah Smiths listed and some of those are from Dauphin County. Just a possibility. He was Jeremiah Smith and married to Margaret Wolfe. I would like to know why he went here and there and never left a trace. This was in the 1850's. But, I don't think he will give me any answers. 3. I don't know Nelson, your like me and are thinking to hard on this question. My house is a mess so I think I take the walk to my ancestor's house. I think I'd pick my father, who died at age 41 when I was 13. Some how he and his mother's generation lost allot of the history of his family, like his gg grandfather being in the Union army in the Civil war. So It would be great to sit down over a beer and some liverwurst (a favorite snack of his) and tell my dad what I've learned over the years. 3. I have thought quite a bit about this. I cancelled out my 4 great grandfather because he died too soon to answer some of my questions, but I think my 3 great grandfather, Samuel Leffler, might be able to help. I want to know if he was married before he married my 3 great grandmother and where his daughter Catherine was and if Mary was by a first wife. I want to know where his Uncle Adam Leffler ended up (I can't find him after the Rev War). And he should be able to tell me my 3 great grandmother's mother's name and how her stepmother was related to him. He could also give me leads on his brothers and sisters that I have not been able to track down with any certainty. I hope this is a long meal, because I have lots of questions. By the way, my granddaughter who is now 21, used to go to cemeteries with me when she was quite young. She learned letters by looking for names for me on tombstones. One day we were standing by my husband's ancestor and she said "Wouldn't it be nice if he could talk to us?" That's when I knew that she was already hooked and didn't know it. 1. Dinner with Robert Elder
    2. Hi Listers, I would very much like to have dinner with my 3rd G-Grandfather, Robert Elder, born in Paxtang about 1748, as the son of Thomas Elder, (b 1708 in Scotland, d Jul 1752 in Paxtang), and Elizabeth Mary Patterson, (b in Scotland), who as a widow in Paxtang, married secondly, James Wallace from Hanover on 29 Nov 1753. With her second husband, she raised Robert Elder and his older brother John Elder and sister, Rachel Elder. I would like to ask Robert Elder to tell me his birthday, and when and where he married his wife, Ann Ingram, with whom he not only raised seven children, but took them all to Green Twp, in Clark Co., Ohio in the Spring of 1813. Both Robert and Ann eventually died there. Robert on 3 Oct 1825 and Ann on 18 Sep 1757. I would hope he could also tell me Ann Ingram's birthday and the names of her parents. David

    3. Nadine, Your posting about going to dinner with an ancestor was certainly thought-provoking. I've gone through numerous imaginary scenarios as a result of your stimulating suggestion. I am torn between preferring to visit my Sulouff immigrant ancestor on his farm in 1803 or having him visit me in my retirement home in Sun City, Tucson, in 2004. What a difference there would be, and what revelations we would have in either case! I administer six Listservs for very uncommon surnames and very small families. Participation is abysmally poor. I think I will be a copycat and post a similar question on my listservs to see if it inspires anyone to respond. Nelson R. Sulouff

Who: Dr. David Cassel Keller (always went by "D.C.") 1814-1891. Early in life he was a schoolteacher and always remained interested in education, being a member of the school board. Later he became a physician and was a country doctor in Union Deposit for many years; his obituary says he delivered 2000 babies. I know she had to care about her family because there was always grand children with her in all the census right up till her death in 1930.
