    3. Would you accept that the Ft. Wayne library is the best one EAST OF SALT LAKE?!!(and not west) -----Original Message----- From: Sheri Krichbaum [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Friday, June 18, 2004 4:14 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [PADAUPHI] Dauphin County Research Joan You are SO COOL, Thanks for all the good tips. Peter enlisted from Warsaw, Indiana (my hometown) and I do have his service record, since he was a married man his next of kin was Saloma and children, and he has no death record, since he was killed near Atlanta, then later a man felt sorry for all the soldiers just buried where they fell, so he gave land, which became the NATIONAL CEMETERY in Marietta, Georgia. I have been there and taken a picture of Peter's stone. He was dug up from where he fell and reburied there. He also has a stone with Saloma in Wabash County, but the date on that one is wrong. I am going to get up about 3 in the morning and drive straight through, since I am bus driver driving is no problem for me, and that little 6 cylinder Tracker goes much faster than that big old bus. I have checked the census, and he was living with the Henry Rupp family and I saw that some other Meyers people were living with other families, I am wondering if his father was dead and maybe Mom had remarried and that man did not take the children in. That might explain why there is never any mention of his family, I think there was some kind of rift. His sister's death certificate (that is in Marshall County, Indiana---- the next county over from mine) has for her parents---PARENTS UNKOWN. I am pretty sure there must have been some kind of family hard feelings. I have been to Fort Wayne, it is just a little over 40 miles from here, and it has a WONDERFUL library, I have heard it said it is the best west of Salt Lake City, and I did some research, but a man who wrote a book about Peter lives in Fort Wayne, and he could not find the answer there. You see I am the youngest one (47) doing research and I promised the elders I would attempt to go. One poor soul passed on and never did get to find out the parents, I hope she saw Peter in Heaven and now knows, she was so dedicated to finding his folks. I am hoping to find a nice (yet-inexpensive) hotel in the area and spend as much time possible doing research, I am so appreciative of your help. Thanks, and have a great summer. I will let the board know any answers I find, so keep an eye out, I hope you will see a posting saying I found his parents. 3. Hello Sheri, Your Krichbaum surname caught my eye on the Dauphin Co. ListServ because I have a 4th great grandfather, Johannes Adam Krichbaum (1727-1779). He arrived in America from Germany on 2 Sep 1749 aboard the ALBANY. He and his brother, Johann Wilhelm Krichbaum (1718-1791), were both married 1 May 1749 in the Evangelische (Lutheran) parish in Neukirchen, and they sailed together with their new brides to America. A Krichbaum>Krigbaum ListServ was started in November last year. It would be great to see you introduce yourself on the ListServ and tell us your relationship to the surname Krichbaum and how far back your branch of the Krichbaum ancestry has been traced. You may click on [email protected] to subscribe. It is evident you are already familiar with using the Rootsweb ListServs. If your Krichbaum line traces back to Pennsylvania in the second half of the 18th C., we may be related. My Krichbaum>Krigbaum ancestors had farms in the Tulpehocken area of Berks Co. and, later, just north of the Dauphin-Northumberland Co. line in Pennsylvania. Looking forward to learning more about you on the ListServ. Rev. Nelson R. Sulouff [email protected]

    1. Bank Statements and more
    2. Hello List, I have a box of bank statements from Harrisburg Trust Company To a Floyde D. Wolfe 121 Strawberry St. Harrisburg, Pa. All years from 1946- 1952 are included in the box. I do not know who this person is, I just happen to be at my fathers yard sale today and he had them. I believe he also had a picture of Floyde D. Wolfe. My father also said he had a box of letters of from Floyde D. Wolfe (when he was in the South Pacific) to his wife. Also, I have two boxes of letters, notes, misc... to a Halderman O'Conner, Esq., 25 North Front Street. Harrisburg, Pa... I'm not sure if I should donate this stuff to the Historical Society or try to find family members..Any suggestions? Michelle

    3. I would suggest that you allow an extra day or two for your trip if possible. I drove from Harrisburg to Chicago one time and it took 11 hours. You have about 250 miles from Harrisburg to the Ohio line via turnpike and 150 or 200 miles if you went across the southern border of Ohio plus anything in Indiana. You really wouldn't have the time to do much research here - especially since some places are not open or have shorter hours on Saturdays. Even coming on a Thursday and returning on Sunday would give you more time. Before you come - have you requested Peter's files from the National Archives in DC? If you get the complete files you may find information there that will help you. I just reread your note and it looks like you have at least some of his papers. Have you checked the census records from 1850 and 1860 to see if you can find a reference to him? But it looks like he might have moved west by 1850 if he married in 1854. Granted it would be a lot of work if you don't know the name of the head of household. Have you obtained a copy of his death certificate? In PA at any rate that shows the names and places of birth of the parents. If you could get the parents name that way, that would help find them on the census. But again rereading your message, it looks like he was killed in 1864 so that probably wouldn't work. Also, there is Dauphin County PA and within Dauphin County, there is a small town called Dauphin (don't know when it was founded). Are you familiar with the Bates volumes on the Civil War? These show the history of all the PA regiments. If you look there for Peter's regiment, it will normally tell you where that unit was mustered in. Is there something similar for IN? That would be one way to verify that he most likely came from this county. I now there are some individual regimental histories - have you checked for those? Bummer, every time I think I have a neat suggestion, your original message seems to indicate that you have probably tried that and it wouldn't work. Have you been to the Fort Wayne IN library to see if they can provide any assistance? Probably . . . If you want to stay in the Harrisburg area, there are a number of inexpensive motels/hotels around. Are you a member of AAA or another travel club? AAA has a number of books on the various states which will give you the names of a lot of motels/hotels. Or check the internet for Harrisburg hotels - that should give you quite a list. Guess I haven't really been too helpful re: research suggestions. But do try to squeeze out a little extra time.] Happy hunting!! 1. [PADAUPHI] Dauphin County Research - Carlton P. Gilbert
    2. Hi fellow listers: Like many of you, I've hit a brick wall, mine on the captioned. I've found Carlton and Anna Gilbert in all of the applicable census for Harrisburg, where they lived their entire lives but cannot find their death dates. They also were listed in the city directories in early 1930's. Is there somewhere else to check? Ancestry and Family search sites have not produced anything on the question. I'm hoping someone local can help. Thanks for anything you can do. Ron Springfield Punta Gorda, Florida

    3. Trying to locate your Peter Myers, and as Margaret married in Cumberland county, I though perhaps Peter's parents may have moved there around 1841 "at the latest" (gives Margaret time to meet and be courted by John Wolf if he was from Cumberland). In the 1860 Silver Springs, Cumberland, Pa census finds Margaret and John with daughter Catherine (6), Joseph(4) and twin girls Eliz and Mary E.(1 month old). 8 doors away is 17-yr-old Peter Myers, working on the Henry and Sarah Rupp farm. I also noticed that both Peter and Margaret named their first daughters Catherine, so I assume that is the name of their mother. Going back to Silver Spring twp, there is a Frederick and Catherine Myers living there in 1850, but this Catherine died in 1862, so can't be your Peter's mother. But there are a whole bunch of Myers in Cumberland county, so you might want to check there. Good luck

    2. Sheri Krichbaum
    3. Hello Fellow Listers, My name is Sheri Christner Krichbaum I descend from the Myers family. I am a school bus driver and have a Friday off in October, and I want to come and try to find a hole in our brick wall. I am researching Peter and Margaret Myers. Peter was from Dauphin County, it states on his enlistment papers from the Civil War that he was from "Dolphin, Pa". He was born around 1833, as he was 29 in 1862 the year he enlisted. His sister Margaret was born 10/26/1826, she married John William Wolf 8/4/1842 in Cumberland County. She and John moved to Preble County, Ohio, and Peter went with them, and there he met Saloma (Sarah Ann) Dillman, and they married 9/17/1854, and came to Wabash County Indiana to live on 10 acres of land that Saloma's father John Dillman gave them. Saloma remained a widow and lived there in their log cabin, until her death 8/4/1934, at the age of almost 105. They had five children, Susan Catherine, John Elliver, Mary Ann, Elijah Lincoln, and Jacob Arthur. We do not know the names of Peter and Margaret's parents, we know that shortly after Peter died (killed in the siege of Atlanta in 1864) that Margaret wrote Peter's widow Saloma, that she had "written Mother, Brother and Sister still in Pennsylvania, that Peter had died and to mourn him". In all the correspondence that we have there is NEVER any mention of the names of the family other than that. One family member says that there could have been siblings John, George, and Dacilla. I do not have any evidence to support that. I was wondering if anyone can tell me a good place to stay, I am going to get up very early on that Friday and drive out, I hope to be able to find something out, and then drive back to Indiana on Saturday. Even if I don't find out anything I will at least been to the area my GG Grandfather was born. Any tips on a good place to start or where to look would be appreciated. I hope to be prepared as best I can, so I can spend the maximum time trying to find my GGG Grandparents. Any help or information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Sheri Christner Krichbaum, Warsaw, Indiana.

    2. Hello Group, Does anyone own a book published by Mr. Dinnini which deals with the history and families who lived in the Chambers Hill area of greater Hgb. I would appreciate if someone could check the book for me in regards to the Hepford family. A member of the group told me that Hepford families lived in this area. My GGgrandfather was David Hepford b.Jan.19,1814 d. Jan.19,1883. I am trying to find his parents and would appreciate any info on any Hepford family. Thank you, Fred

When there is no family connection, I rarely dig deeper, such as in this case. You should continue to dig, however, and perhaps you'll come up with something. -- Regards, CHARLES EARL FIES -- Fies Family Fotos <http://home.att.net/~chasfies/> BABB - HARTMAN <http://home.att.net/~chasfies/Babbs.html> DAUPHIN CO. The 1880 census says > that my George's parents were born in Germany. (snip, snip) > > Thank you, > > Bob Snyder in MI Sorry I can't help you out here. :( I've reached the brick wall on my mother's SNYDER line, and don't recall too much about that family in the greater Middletown area. Of course, I was only looking for my ancestors, and didn't find any connections :( Hi Charlie :) My 3G grandparents are listed under Swartz-Nisley Cem, namely, John Nissley, Barbara Hertzler. I then come down from Martin Nisley, Isaac Landis Nissley Sr. Isaac Landis Nisley Jr. and then my mother Claribel Nisley Wescott. My question concerns my grandmother's side Hepford. My 2GreatGrand is David Hepford Jan.19/1814d.Jan.19/1883 husband of Susannah Lingle. They are buried at Paxton Methodist but church has no records. I can not find his parents. I am interested in Heppur listed under Middletown Cemetery Reinterments. Do you have any info? 1850 Census looks like Heppan but Ancestry list him as Heppard. Family notes say David was born in Lower Swatara. Any thoughts? Do I go to churches looking for a David born on Jan.19? Fred Nisley Wescott, Louisville, Ky. Fred :) Since you already searched the best sources (Church affiliations) I can't offer much help. I recently skimmed through a book listing the HEPFORD family, but don't recall it's exact title. It was written by, I believe, a Dininni, and is the history of Chambers Hill area, where the HEPFORD families lived. Someone on the Dauphin County listing may have that book or access to it, and might be able to help you out. Keep digging, and you'll come across something. -- Regards, CHARLES EARL FIES -- Fies Family Fotos <http://home.att.net/~chasfies/> BABB - HARTMAN <http://home.att.net/~chasfies/Babbs.html> DAUPHIN CO. 1. HEUCHER/HEICHER Farm graveyard
    2. Charles E. Fies, Retired
    3. Carl :) I noted you requested information on the location of a HEUCHER FARM GRAVEYARD some time ago. E.W.S.Parthemore documented that burial ground, and published in Egle's "Notes and Queries" Fourth Series Volume II page 347. He mentioned the families lived there for a century or more, but his records indicate they never owned the farm. Parthemore lists the owners from the original patent or grant up to the present Shope family. While the graveyard has HUECHERs, they were not the owners of record; perhaps just tenant farmers. It's just off Longview Drive, near the lane leading into the SWARTZ family graveyard on the opposite side. It appears on my web page at: <http://home.att.net/~charliefies/Nissley.html> You may already have located this since you wrote the comments in the Index book I looked through.
