James Woods, son of Hansel [Hance]and Jane Woods, was born ... in County Tyrone, Ireland, December 15, 1805. When but one year old he was brought with the family to America who settled near Pittsburgh, PA. In early youth he united with the Reformed Presbyterian congregation of Pittsburgh, under the pastorate of Rev. John Black, D. D., many years previous to the division of 18--. He was married on December 2, 1830 to Miss Nancy Smith of Cumberland County, PA. In 1839 he moved to the vicinity of Mercer, PA where he resided for ten years and was a member of Springfield society which afterwards became a congregation. On moving to the West in 1850, after making several changes of location, he settled hear Hopkinton, Iowa, and was a member of that congregation for about thirteen years, both before and during the pastorate of Rev. Roberts, D.D. On leaving there, he moved into the bounds of Clarinda congregation, Iowa, and for many years was a member und! er the long pastorate of Rev. D. McKee. About two years ago he moved to Blanchard, Iowa, and became a member of the congregation there..." James and Nancy (Smith) Woods are buried at Blanchard, Page County, Iowa.
