    2. Some of you may be interested in a 38 page book by Rev. Wm. Swaim, former minister of Big Spring Presby. Church, Newville, PA. This book, "...Over the River..." is still available through the Newville Historical Society, Cumberland County Histroical Society, or through the William Swaim Historical Trust (LtcMax117@aol.com). This book covers the first 100 licenses issued by Samuel Blunston in 1734-36 to pioneer settlers in the Cumberland Valley. Nearly 300 families are named. The Valley at that time also included Franklin County. Several maps are included which indicate where the earliest families settled. There are Kilgores and "McLoghlins" mentioned. The oldest existing public building in Newville is the Laughlin Mill (ca1762) on Rte. 641.
