I am sending this message to several relevant lists. Ed Deal and Harry Diehl have put their heads together to come up with a possible family for Paul Dale/Deal b abt 1772 PA d abt 1851 Darke Co OH. Researchers of this family line have all hit the same brick wall: no trail from OH back to a location in PA. Harry Diehl has 55 years of research on PA Deals upon which he bases this theory: that Paul Dale/Deal is one of the heirs of Christian Dale of Tyrone Twp, Cumberland Co PA, whose will can be found in Cumberland Co Vol G p 24, signed on 25 Jan 1804 and proved on 5 March 1804. Harry and Ed report the will names wife, Martha; sons Christian, George, Peter, PAUL, and Daniel; and daughters Martha and Christina. Executors were John Miller and Daniel Dale. Witnesses were Thomas Simonton and Daniel Lower. Harry believes Christian Dale was previously from Northumberland Co and a son of John Diehl/Dale. Harry speculates that John was a son of the immigrant John Diehl who arrived on the ship PA Merchant in 1731 and settled in Lancaster and Berks Cos. My short list of possible "sightings" of Paul Dale/Deal in Pa include: Wayne Webb's report of Paul Deal in Woodbury Twp, Bedford Co, in 1802 . Wayne says this is probably Martinsburg. This Paul Dale was a shoemaker who was taxed 4 cents. A Paul Deal is found Bedford Co, Hopewell and Woodberry Twp c 1800 with family which included a boy and girl in the youngest age categories. (1-0-0-1-0; 1-0-0-1-0.) A Paul Deal was in Ross Twp, Allegheny Co Pa c 1810: He's shown on p 293 with 3 males under ten, one male 16-26. 1 male 26-45. Females are 3 under 10, one 10-16, 1 26-45. The Paul Dale/Deal who migrated bef 1820 to OH (first reported in Montgomery Co, where he associated with Brethren families, then Miami and Darke Cos), had a wife Mary reportedly b abt 1778 who d aft 1850 prob in Delaware Co IN. Their children included Mollie, Philip, Elizabeth, Christian, Sarah, Adam, Catherine, George, Paul, Hannah, Christina, and Jacob. A Daniel Deal settled nearby in Miami Co, but he has not been connected to Paul. I share this lead with other researchers with Ed Deal and Harry Diehl's approval. Ideas and opinions welcome.
