My last message was garbled beyond belief !! I have no idea how it happened.. Rev. Wm. Swaim (deceased 1999) did several years of research on the BLUNSTON licenses. Much of his research was donated to the Newville and the Cumberland County Historical Societies. He wrote one book ("Over the River") which gave an alpjhabetical listing of all 284 licensees. The only other known book to do this was a 1930 book by Donehoo, "History of the Cumberland Valley." Swaim's major contribution was his research to attempt to place the licensed tracts on the map of the Cumberland Valley. This had never been done before, or since. This was the purpose of "Over the River." Approximately 100 pioneer families are plotted in Cumberland and Franklin Counties. Linda, you are correct, William CARNAHAN received License #228 on March 14, 1736, for 150 acres. The Historical Societies listed can provide the book, or contact me as I serve as trustee of the William Swaim Historical Trust. .
