Dear Cumblerland Co. Listers, I am new to this list and need some help in locating my Ziegler ancestors in Cumberland Co. Unfortunately, they do not seem to be related to the Zieglers researched so exhaustively by Allen Ziegler. I finally -- thanks to a kind soul in the Lancaster Co. list -- found my ancestors in Cumberland Co., confirming statements made much later. Here is the earliest record from 1850 which I now have: 1850 PA Cumberland Monroe Twp. M432_773, Pg 235 107/107 Abraham Siglar, 30, M, Laborer, Born PA Elizabeth, 30, Born PA Jane B, 6, Born PA Thomas, 5, Born PA Mary C, 4, Born PA Margaret A, 1, Born PA Apart from the fact that the family was orthographically challenged (Ziegler, Zeigler, Siglar, Zigler, etc.), they seem to have come from Cumberland Co. I assume that they were either Presbyterian or members of the Reformed Church (their children married Ulster Scots Presbyterians, and very, very Calvinist Presbyterians at that). Can anybody out there tell me which church records (again, probably Reformed Church records) I should try to search? The family seems to have been very poor, so that I don't know if a search of wills would help or not. They moved in the mid 1850s to Claysville, Washington Co., Pennsylvania. Elizabeth Ziegler's maiden name was Ross. Her father was named Joseph Ross and he shows up in Dickinson Twp., Cumberland Co. in the 1840 census, though I believe he came from Huntingdon Twp., Adams Co., where there is a baptismal record for Elizabeth. Joseph's wife was named Sarah -- don't have a maiden name for her (not yet at least...) Any help would be greatly appreciated. I can help out with German records -- I now live and work here in Germany. Thanks in advance. Jeff Richards Muenster, Germany
