Linda - This is the second part of my reply,. In going through Appendix C on page 29 I notice Swaim refers to George P Donehoo, former Penna. State Librarian who was the first person to recognize the importance of Blunston's License Book. He wrote History of the Cumberland Valley of Pennsylvania 1930. The names on page 29 and following pages were taken, it appears to me, from that History of the Cumberland Valley. Widow Jack does not seem to be in this index. On page 34 Widow Jack is included in Appendix D, Cumberland Valley Settlers Prior to the Blunston License Period. The note says these names were also contained in Blunston's License Book, and the number following each name is the License Number on which the name appears. I would take from this, Widow Jack was assigned number 222 herself by reason of Blunston finding her already in possession of land in Cumberland Valley when he arrived. The last page, 38 in Over the River shows a page of Blunston License Book, and we see more information there about the plot licensed. WHERE THIS IS LEADING IS: Has anyone made a copy of the license book itself? That is where you might find a clue to Widow Jack. I would assume there was no intermediary. I think 222 was her number. I don't know if anyone has seen George P. Donehoo's book History of the Cumberland Valley of Pennsylvania 1930 to check out a possible reference to Widow Jack. I would be interested to know if this might agree with your view of the situation?
