We have John SINGLE household E. Pennsboro, 1840, with about ten "free colored." What crop would they be raising? Or was it a half-way house? My great-grandfather, George MATER, is listed next door and he never purchased any land. He is either living on the Single land or on the land of his other neighbor, Elizabeth MORISON- she was 40-50 and no male in the household. George MATER was probably a weaver. George, a Lutheran, married Elizabeth KINDER in 1823 and she was probably a Mennonite. Were either of these families, that is SINGLE and MORISION, Mennonite? George and Elizabeth died in 1848 but there is no record that we can find of where they are buried.. This part of E.Pennsboro became Hampdon Township in 1845. I am trying to check out the known cemeteries in that township. Anyone have an idea. Hal
