Northumberland Co. was created in 1752 from parts of Cumberland, Northampton, Lancaster, Berks, and Bedford Counties. PA evolved from a few original counties to the present 67 counties, so your ancestors could live in the same spot all their lives, but their records could be in 2, 3 or 4 counties because of the way the counties were created. Your library may have maps of PA at different years, showing how the counties appear.
