These are surnames of people who were (apparently) in Cumberland Co., PA very early (mid 1700s). About half of them migrated to the area of the fluid NC counties of Tyron, Lincoln, Rutherford on areas such as Indian Creek, Buffalo Creek (along the Broad River), and Ward's Creek; and to Crowders Creek which is on the SC/NC boundary. Some of the Oats and Moores (later joined by a Going) were Indian traders. Is anyone on this list tied to these families? If so, I would like to share information. Also--can anyone tell me something about the early inhabitants of Cumberland Co.--especially those in Peters Township. These folks appear to be Scots-Irish by the naming patterns, but they are too early to be part of the Scots Irish large migration waves. Were these some of the indentured servants (Irish and Scots Irish) who were shipped for a period to Barbados and then came to the mainland early when their time period was up? Or were they English Quakers? Were they Scots? Does anyone know? My later ancestors (by later I mean late 1700s) were Presbyterians so the suggestion is they were Scottish or S-I, but I am just not certain. Any info from your family histories would help me a lot. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, March 07, 2006 1:00 AM To: [email protected] Subject: PACUMBER-D Digest V06 #51
