What incredible research you do. Your source documentation also is excellent. You definitely deserve a "thumbs up". In my twenty plus years of genealogy research I don't recall ever seeing such inconsistent U.S. Census data. Thank you; thank you for the Hiram help. I accept that census information is normally unreliable, but consistent information over a series of consecutive census's I tend to give a higher degree of credibility. However, I don't recall ever having as many problems as I had with Ancestry.com census indexing as I had with Hiram. Using your information I did locate Henry with the surname "Mickey" in the 1870 Census. I suspect the Henry is probably a nickname his parents used for Hiram. Ancestry.com failed again with its indexing of the 1920 U.S. Census. I had to examine the raw census records since they had it now indexed under the surname "Vickey or Nuncy"; how they got that surname I don't know. I absolutely agree with you the record definitely looks like Nickey. If you zoom in on the entry it becomes even more obviously that it is Nickey. On this same page it gives the surname of his mother-in-law as Nickey. However, a few entries farther down the same enumerator record another mother-in-law entry and provid! e a different surname than the head of that family. It would appear that this enumerator is very inconsistent. I also agree with you that Emma's maiden surname is probably Mordorf. Lacking reliable sources that provide a different surname I tentatively accept the surname of the family that shows the individual as a child of the "Head" and "Wife" in the census. I have the 1930 U.S. Census for Lee M. Nickey Sr., his wife Jean Brady, and his children Lee M. Nickey Jr. and Rachael J. Nickey. I suspect you have this information, but if not, I will gladly e-mail you a copy of the census page. My Nickey database also contains over 2,000 individuals, if I can be of any assistance to you, I'm willing. Again, many thanks for your significant genealogy effort and the information you provide me. Best wishes, Brad. Nickey. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
