The family story had George's wife's name as Evanna OSMAND. The 1860 Census shows her living with George as a domestic and her name is Ann OSMAN. The 1870 Census shows her name as Eve A SINGLE. Another family story is that George's grandmother was a Dutch bond girl who was bought by a Indian. Another story is that the family name was LINGLE but when the family moved from Pennsylvania to Kansas too many people kept saying Single so they changed it. The 1860 & 1870 Census seem to indicate that if a name change occurred it was much earlier than the move to Garland, Kansas in the early 1870's.
