Author: jmfreed Surnames: McIntire, McCabe Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.pennsylvania.counties.cumberland/5450/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Seeking information and contacts about the family and descendants of John and Margaret (McCabe) McIntire (McIntyre). The were married at the Centre Presbyterian Church, August 11, 1778, Cumberland (now Perry) County, Pennsylvania. They are buried in the Big Spring Presbyterian Graveyard, Newville Borough, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. Margaret McCabe had siblings James, John, William, and Robert, children of Owen and Catherine (Sears) McCabe. John siblings were probably Thomas, Jennett, and James, children of Andrew and Martha McIntire. In the U.S. Federal census records of Cumberland County, they are listed with a number of children, but we have not been able to identify any of them, except Mary McIntire, possible daughter or granddaughter (b. ca 1808), and is buried beside them. Does John McIntire have a will in Cumberland County? Do they have any living descendants? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Hello Folks: The Perry Historians, a genealogical library located northeast of New Bloomfield, Perry Co., PA. on Rt.34 are going to be holding our annual Genealogical Workshop (a Beginners Workshop) at the Harry Lenig Library on Saturday, March 7, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Please note that this year we are breaking our workshops into two groups - as we have had many folks in the past who were just starting out and we could not concentrate on what you do when you begin family research and the sources available - we had to split the day devoting the secondhalf to those who had been doing research for a while. But on this day (March 7th) we will be holding our workshop for those who are beginning their family tree. Then on Saturday, April 4, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., we will be holding another Genealogical Workshop - this time an Advanced resource day for those who have been doing research for a while and may need assistance and suggestions on how to "break those walls down". All are welcome and it is FREE of charge. All we ask is that you let us know at least a week in advance that you may be attending - so that we have enough handouts available - by e-mailing: Donna@ThePerryHistorians.org For more information about our library - you can check out our website: www.ThePerryHistorians.org Look forward to seeing you there! Donna Heller Zinn volunteer / Director of The Perry Historians
Thanks Joe, and listers for the information in answer to my question. Will give the Dickinson College a go, and see what comes from this. As to?the the Episcopal Diocese Archives site, if I am understanding it correctly, the records are held by the individual church, and must be contacted in that way. As always a great list, with lots of helpful information! Oooh, Jack! You have just given me the first flutter of hope I've had, in 30 years, of finding the parents of my Robert McCUNE, b. 1820, Newville, PA. I've seen nothing in Presbyterian church records, and never considered another faith. I have all his vitals from his NARA pension application for his Civil War service, but his folks are my enduring brick wall. I suspect they were John McCUNE (1783-1855) and Catherine SMITH (1788-1883), but have no conclusive proof. Any indication they were Episcopal? Could you see if you have any church records for Eliza Koucher born 1810. Marriage to John Fisher around 1832. Thanks, Ida
Listers: I have a question about christening records in Carlisle, abt. 1800.? (I do?realize records for this time frame were kept by churches, and?NOT the state.)? Here's what I know about my 2x greatgrandfather, James CARSON. He is buried in the?Allegheny Cemetery, Pittsburgh, and died in Allegheny City 1875.? According to the burial records he was born in Carlisle, PA in 1800.? No month or day given.? There is a notice of his death and burial from an Episcopal church in Allegheny City.? This I have found on microfilm. He and Mary GEER (my 2x Gr-grm)?were married 18 Dec 1828, Trinity Episcopal, Pittsburgh. My question is what Episcopal church was in existence in 1800 in Carlisle, PA?? Anyone, know where christening records would be held?? Since I do not know the names of his parents or siblings, I am hoping that a baptism record would at least list the parents names. Any help will be most appreciated. Marybeth C. northeast OHio
