If you have an index of administrations, wills, and/or estate probate, would you please see if you find one for William Stitt, who died in 1791. I'm told that he died in adjacent Franklin Co. PA, but cannot find a will/administration/estate record for him there. Franklin Co. was created from part of Cumberland Co. in 1784.

Hello, I am a new subscriber to the Cumberland County List. I am searching for records of the family of my GGGGgrandfather, Andrew ELLIOTT. He and his family appear in the 1820 census in North Middleton, Cumberland County. According to the obituary of Andrew's wife, Elizabeth, who died in Indiana in 1844, Andrew died in PA about 1822. His widow and at least 4 sons and 2 daughters moved to Stark County, Ohio, in 1823. In 1843, Elizabeth moved with 3 of her sons to Indiana. I am in search of more information about Andrew ELLIOTT. Hopefully, I will find a death notice about 1822, possibly some property records. I will greatly appreciate any resources in Cumberland County. Thank you, Chuck Elliott

I, too, have been to the wonderful Lenig Library and found much on our ancestors. There I found a book, "Perry County Grist Mills" by Eugene E. Eby which contained several paragraphs on the English Mill, which was built by David English. He actually had more than one grist mill. I have David Sr. (1730-1790) and David Jr.(1750-1806). The mill was built prior to 1787 so We don't know which David built it or if it is the correct line for our ancestors, but my hunch is that it is. The book says that David Englishs'family owned much of the land where Newport is now located (book written in 1978). These mills were on the Little Buffalo Creek and the Big Buffalo Creek. I descend from David Jr's older brother, John. Do you have any more siblings for them? For David English and Mary Cunningham's children. I have Mary, David III,Rachel, James, John, Eleanor, William, Thomas. I had Thomas's wife's name as Agnes Jones, but you say it was Ann? I would also be very interested in the verbal history you have about your family even if it isn't my direct line Will be glad to share more detail of what I have.
