I don't think I have any Lambs in my family tree, but I have lived near Lamb's Gap all my life. it is truly God's country, a great place to live. I've seen some Lamb tombstones in the Silver Spring Presbyterian Cemetery, near here. According to a list of burials, there are two Samuel Lambs, also two Davids, Hannah, two Williams, Sarah, John, Ann, and an infant. I would be happy to take pictures for you if you don't already have them. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. Is this stoughstown in cumberland county along route 11 (ritner hwy)? ________________________________________ From: pacumber-bounces@rootsweb.com [pacumber-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Nora Avery [averynora@gmail.com] Sent: Monday, June 29, 2009 3:56 PM To: Gen PA Cumberland Subject: [PACUMBER] Stoughstown Lutheran Cemetery Would someone on this list please send me explicit directions for locating the (no longer in existence) Stoughstown Lutheran Church's Cemetery? I will be visiting from Florida in July. Two years ago I drove up and down the main highway and all side streets looking for a house converted from a church with a "sunken area and a few stones" marking the cemetery. I was unsuccessful. A relative or two are buried there and I'd at least like to have a photo of the area, even though I don't think they have markers. Thank you. 3. Hi Nora: Not sure which direction you will be coming from... but here it goes! >From Carlisle take Rt.11 (west) towards Shippensburg; you'll go through a red light at the intersection of Rt.233; you'll then come to the hamlet of Stoughstown; in/about the center of town - in the hollow, turn right onto Spring Rd. (think that's the name?); immediately after you turn onto this road look to your left and you'll see the old church. The last time I was passed there, the people who owned it had old windows and "junk" all around the building. I can remember when there were tombstones visible - back quite a few years ago-, but not sure if there are any surviving today. 3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Emma and Lee BEAR which was taken at the John D. Lemer Studio in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1880's with the two children ranging in age from infant to about 4 years old. Based on limited research I was able to gather some information regarding the children and their family: Lee Bidler BEAR b. 2 Aug 1890 in Carlisle, PA to parents Elmer & Kathy BEAR. Lee died 9 Feb 1967 in Harrisburg, PA. Author: estokel1 Surnames: THOMPSON Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.pennsylvania.counties.cumberland/5466/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello! I'm searching for vital info (death date, obit, death certificate, etc.) on my grandmother's great uncle, George W. Thompson who was born in Carlisle, Cumberland CO, PA about 1843. He was the son of Mathew and Ursula (unknown maiden name) Thompson who are listed on the US Census in Carlisle in 1860 and 1870. Their other children were Ann E., David, and Mary C. Thompson. My grandmother was Ann E. Thompson's granddaughter. Ann E. and her daughter, Mary Minerva Thomas moved to Massachusetts in the late 1860's. George W Thompson married someone name Sarah J. (unknown) in 1866 and had 4 sons. Edward E. Thompson - born about 1867 William E. Thompson - born about 1868 (in the Army in the 1890's) George W. Jr. - born about 1874 who married Gertie Miller and moved to Harrisburg Charles Thompson - born about 1878 All 4 sons born in Carlisle I think. George W Thompson and wife Sarah are listed in the Federal Census in Carlisle in 1870, 1880, 1900, and 1910. The 2 oldest sons (Edward and William) are listed with the parents in all years. No reference to Charles after 1880 (may have died young). I lose track of everyone except George Jr. after 1910. My grandmother always said someone in the Thompson line was of Native American Indian descent but she didn't know who or what tribe. Any info you can provide on any of these people will be greatly appreciated. Ed Stokel estokel@comcast.net Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. GSP is the Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania. Yes, PGM is the Pennsylvania Genealogical Magazine. I don't have an electronic copy to share of the issues. I was just letting people know so that you can find it if you want to see if your ancestors appear in it. You can order copies of articles in magazine through inter-library loan from your public library. Or you can order back issues from GSP. Or you can see if any local library or genealogical library might subscribe. Volume 45 -- No. 4 Fall/Winter 2008, Courts of Oyer and Terminer Minutes, Cumberland County, pp. 331-348 Volume 46 -- No. 1 Spring/Summer 2009, Courts of Oyer and Terminer Minutes, Cumberland County, pp. 59-67.
