    1. Re: [PACUMBER] Arthurs in Cumberland Co.,PA. 1786
    2. Joy Henning
    3. Hello Pam, I am not an Arthurs descendant but have some information about a Joseph Arthur who lived in Cumberland County and was a part owner of the Pine Grove Iron Furnace there. He later moved to Shenandoah County Va and continued to own furnaces in VA. There may be a connection to John Arthur also. If you believe that your Arthurs could also be Arthur, then I might have some more information on where they went from Cumberland County VA. I am only interested in the Arthur family because my ancestor, John Glenn b. 1771, worked for the Pine Grove Furnace in Cumberland County PA and later followed the Arthur family to Shenandoah/Page Counties VA where he worked at the Isabella Furnace. He must have thought a lot of Joseph Arthur because he named one of his sons Joseph Arthur Glenn. Let me know if you think this might connect, and I'll send you what I have. Joy Pine Grove Furnace Owner/Ironmaster Histories 9 JOHN ARTHUR • Joseph Thornburg and his wife, Rebecca conveyed their interest in the land previously acquired from Jacob Simeon and his wife, Anna to Thomas Thornburg and John Arthur by deed, dated 22 Dec 1788. 1 • Operated the Pine Grove Furnace until about 1800, when Ege, Thornburg and Arthur seemed to have disagreed and various law suits were entered against Michael and Peter Ege, which continued until about 1810, when an agreement was arrived as to refer the matters in dispute to Robert Coleman, another well-known ironmaster. 1 (Warwick Furnace). • In an agreement signed by David Watts for Thornburg and Arthur, and by Michael Ege, on 7 Nov 1810, Pine Grove Furnace with all its accumulated acreage of woodland was put up at public sale by order of the Court. 1 • Married: 8 Dec 1789 Margaret Atherly, Third Presbyterian Church, Phila, PA. • Children: o Isabella Arthur2,4 Born: 10 Oct 1765, Caroline County, VA. Died: 24 Jan 1837, Isabella Furnace, Luray, Shenandoah (Page) County, VA Aged: 71yrs, 3mos, 14 days. o John Arthur Born: 08 Jul 1762. Pine Grove Furnace, Cumberland Co. I found out that he was not a Darhower, but I keep hearing he's a Bowermaster. Someone wrote me and said that no one has a straight answer. I've heard that there was supposedly racial tension in the family or that he was abused by his original parents. Someone did in fact research the Darhower family for us until we discovered that he wasn't related to them after all. George supposedly went by Bowermaster even as a young man and didn't actually change his name until after he was married to Sarah Bitner. He was never officially adopted by the Darhowers. I have not heard the Brymesser or Fahnestock names. That's interesting....... Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [PACUMBER] Glenn-Glenn and Bradley surnames
    2. Joy Henning
    3. Hello listers, I'm a new subscriber. I've been researching the Glenn/Glen and Bradley surnames in Cumberland County for years. My earliest known ancestor is John Glenn b. 1771, probably in Cumberland County, d. 1825 Page County VA. He first appeared in records in the Day Books of Pine Grove Furnace where he worked until about 1805. His name is there in 1790 and thereafter. He married Mary Bradley at the First Presbyterian Church in Carlisle in 1796. She was the daughter of Thomas Wilson Bradley b. 1740 d. 1833 in Cumberland Co. I'm currently looking at a possible connection with Gabriel Glenn and Thomas Glenn who may have been brothers. Also would like to know about Hugh, James and John who owned land almost next to each other in Dickinson Twp beginning in 1769. There is also a John Glenn, tavern keeper (innkeeper, shopkeeper) in Carlisle in mid to late 1700's who is of interest. A John Glenn is also shown as the husband of Mary Seawright and living in Middletown Twp in 1773...how does he relate to the above? I'd be interested in connecting with any Glenn/Glen or Bradley from Cumberland County. Other names connected with these families are: Maurice, Bush, McCune, Wright, McKinstry, Carrothers, Leyde, Broomfield/ Brumfield, and McCollum to name a few. Joy
