Hello................ If that is the 1887 version of the book, it can be found online at: http://usgwarchives.net/pa/franklin/wbeerstoc.htm More and more books are being digitized and placed online which is great. The only problem is finding them. I hate to ask, but do you have this book? Would you be willing to do a lookup for me on 3 names? I have a wall, a rather large wall, it is big and hairy and full of rebar and it won't let me through...LOL. Please let me know if you would be willing. Blessings, Janet

When I do get back to that area of research, it will be useful in sorting out the various lines or Irwin (if you haven't done it first - go right ahead!). Of course the problem with the Scotch-Irish in Pennsylvania is that so many of them came at the same time - 30,000, I have heard, and most between 1740 - 1790, interrupted by the Revolutionary War. The good thing is that they stayed in family groups and groups from the same villages in Northern Ireland. The Pennsylvania origins of my Virginia Irvins is shrouded in mystery. Much of what I have is purely circumstantial. I am a primary source guy who tries to avoid the Lucinda Boyd drivel in "Irvines & Kin" and the other vanity "histories". But sometimes we have no other choice. The clue for me is the name Abraham used in conjunction with the names John, Christopher, and Andrew. Abraham is a relatively rare name for the Irwins. Bedford county, Virginia John had a son Abraham that was supposedly born on board the ship in the transit over from Ireland. A Christopher Erwin of neighboring Prince Edward county had sons Abraham, Andrew, William, Christopher, and daughter Margaret. Prince Edward Christopher died in the 1760's. One John Erwin was one of the executors named in the will. I suspect old John and deceased Christopher to be brothers but I cannot prove that yet. I have several sources for some Pennsylvania Irvins--some primary-! -some not so primary. Attached are some clues. Edwin http://www.usgwarchives.org/pa/1pa/paarchivesseries/series2/vol2/pass2-13.html http://wapedia.mobi/en/Middle_Spring_Presbyterian_Church Click on all the links to see some of the old references to John and Margaret Erwin. http://search.ancestry.com/iexec/?htx=BookList&dbid=14524&offerid=0:7858:0 You may have to be an ancestry subscriber to read this one. I'm not sure. John married one Margaret Boyd? This may all be a stab in the dark and may be no relation to my kin at all. John and Margaret had other children besides Abraham.--Robert, Elizabeth, Nancy, (supposedly captured by indians, then rescued, shortly before the French and Indian war)Margaret, William, and John Jr. These children surely were baptized somewhere in Pa. I suspect my Irvins landed in Philadelphia about 1738? settled eventually in Cumberland, then moved to Virginia soon after Braddock's Defeat. Who knows? Perhaps someone can help me. I am looking for Irvins/Irwins who moved to Virginia in the late 1750's? Their given names are John, Christopher, and Abraham Irvin. Men of the same name appear on the Petition of Defence from Cumberland county dated Aug. 7, 1755. They also appear to have served with Joseph Armstrong in the Militia from Cumberland. I have seen them perhaps associated with Lurgan Township, or Hopewell, and maybe the Middle Springs Presbyterian Meeting House. As far as I can tell, these Irvins are not related to the Irwins (James & Archibald, etc.) further south in Peters Township. John Irvin married one Mary Boyd, supposedly in Ireland and son Abraham was born aboard ship on the trip over to Pa. Maybe around 1739-1743? They probably settled in the Valley prior to the formation of Cumberland. Christopher may be John's brother and Abraham's uncle? Who knows? We have tried to work the Irwin/Irvin lines before and never found anything. I have a Maria Irwin who married James W. Hunter in Miami County, Ohio in 1843. She was said to be born in Ireland in 1823, the daughter of John Irwin and Fanny Nelson. James Hunter was born in Ohio, to parents from what is now Perry County, Pennsylvania. A large group of Scotch-Irish from Perry County moved to Miami County Ohio and for the first generation at least, we have traced virtually every marriage back to Perry County families. But no luck in Pennsylvania, although I must admit I have not worked on them for a very long time. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Hello Folks: A friend of mine is beginning his family tree. His family is new to the USA - only about 3rd or 4th generation here. He found out at a family reunion that his family can be traced back to a town about 15 miles or so from Rome, Italy and he was told that the family name was changed from another surname to NERICCIO. We were wondering if there are any church records for Roman Catholic churches near this area in Italy and if so - how could we find them?? I am familiar with searching records in the USA but not outside of our country... any help appreciated!!! Donna
