    3. Hi, Bob: You're quite welcome. I wondered if Daniel and Alice's child, Bella M., was named for Bellmina. According to the 1900 census material, Daniel & Alice married about 1886. They would have needed to complete a marriage license application, which probably would have included the names of their parents. Any idea where they married? Good luck with your search! 2. Thank you, Debra. That 1870 Census showing Daniel as a 7 year old is the one I'm trying to confirm by locating Daniels obituary (22 Aug 1956). It could mention him being predeceased by his parents and/or siblings that I can match to that 1870 record, thereby confirming that Daniel as mine. I did not have those BOWMAN records, thanks ... with so many Bowmans in Cumberland and Dauphin Counties, I thought it better to locate her obit first, also. Bob

    2. My wife's great grandparents, Daniel CROWL (1860-1956) and Alice (BOWMAN) CROWL (1860-1918) are buried in Mechanicsburg Cemetery. Their headstones only provided the year of death for each, but I was able to find out their exact dates of death by a phone call to the cemetery. Alice died 17 December 1918, and Daniel died 22 August 1956. I know they were living in Upper Allen Township at the time of Alice's death in 1918 and Daniel was still living their as of the 1930 Census. Can anyone tell me what newspaper would likely have carried their obits? How would I go about searching it ... inter-library loan? ... or would a library or genealogical society do lookups? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am hoping the obits will shed some light on just who their parents were. Bob Meany

    2. Listers: ? ? I recently?saw a listing for?a dentist, a Dr. Frank D.?GEER, whose practice was located in Johnstown, PA, c. 1902.? This was from the Western PA Genealogical Society's? Fall quarterly, 2009.? The article is a list of Penn dentists in 1902.? It states his practice was in the Suppes Bldg and he graduated from the PA. Col. Dental Surg., 1899.? ? ? I have a 2x greatgrandmother, Mary GEER, b. abt. 1810, Cumberland, PA who married James CARSON, b. 1800 Carlisle, PA on the 18th of Dec 1828, at the Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, Pittsburgh, PA.? This couple's first two children, daus. Ellen B.?and Ann Virginia were born in Butler Co., PA, 1831 and 1837.? The family later lived in Old Allegheny/Allegheny City, as per Harris city directories and censuses.? This couple's d.o.d.'s were James 1875 and Mary 1885 and they are buried in the Allegheny Cemetery, Allegheny Co., PA. ? ? His fifth child was Augustus (not Augusta as many claim), born ~1817 in Greencastle, Franklin Co., PA. His first born was Charles, born ~1838 in Greencastle, died in 1864 in the Civil War. He married Rebecca Braham on 1 Dec 1861. They had a son, Elmer C. Shirey, born 15 July 1862 in Jefferson Co., PA (?). What I have been able to piece together is that after Charles' death, Rebecca quickly remarried a Mr. Rupley, who was also killed in the Civil War! Rebecca Rupley can be found in the 1880 US Census living with her first in-laws, Augustus and Maria Shirey then living in GreenCastle, Franklin Co., PA. Her son, Elmer C. Shirey is found in the 1870 US Census living with Rebecca's parents! However, the transcriber lists him as Elmer Skerry, but when you look at the actual page, you can see that the enumerator spelled it correctly as Elmer Shirey! In 1880 he is listed independently as a student. I am still waiting to receive a copy of the Civil War widowers and orphans documents that will prove my "theory." Unfortunately, most Shirey researchers list my great grandfather ! (Elmer C.) as a child of Alexander Shirey who had a son named Elmer G. Shirey very close to the same birth date for Elmer C....but Elmer G. died young and is NOT the same as Elmer C.!! I don't even know if you are still active on this site...I hope you are and that I get a reply from you! I am very interested in knowing more about John and his family. Are they from Switzerland or Germany? Was his father a Shirey or a Scheurer or a Scheurar??? Did John have more than one wife (as some suggest?) other than Anna Maria Ruthrauff? I look forward to your reply. Blessings, Lee-Pierre Shirey son of Jacob Lee Shirey, son of Howard Lee Shirey, son of Elmer C. Shirey! 1. [PACUMBER] Daniel CROWL Obit
    2. Hello Listers. I am trying to locate an obituary for my wife's great grandfather, Daniel CROWL and his wife, Alice. Here is what I know about them: 1. He was born in September 1861and married Alice BOWMAN in 1886. She was born in October 1860. 2. They are enumerated in the 1900 Census, living in Upper Allen Twp with their children: Bella M., Esther R., Gertrude, and Leroy. 3. The 1910 finds Daniel and Alice still in Upper Allen Twp., with children: Samuel, Gertrude M., and Esther with her husband, John Hollinger and their daughter, Maude E. Hollinger. 4. According to her headstone in the Mechanicsburg Cemetery, Alice (Bowman) CROWL died in 1918. 5. In the 1920 Census, Daniel CROWL is living in Upper Allen Twp. with daughter Esther Hollinger and her family. 6. In the 1930 Census, Daniel is found still living in Upper Allen Twp., but with his son Roy L. CROWL and his family. 7. According to his headstone in the Mechanicsburg Cemetery, he died in 1956. I feel that the obituaries would be valuable in ascertaining their parents names. I suspect that Daniel is the son of William H. CROWL whom I find in the 1880 Census in Monaghan Twp in York Co., PA. There are too many Bowmans to be certain I've found my Alice in the 1880 Census ... there are a few possibilities, though and parents names would pinpoint her. With only the years of their deaths, how can I find obituaries for Daniel in 1956, and Alice in 1918. Does Pennsylvania have a searchable death index? As I'm writing this, the thought occurs to me that the cemetry might have interment dates for Daniel and Alice which would narrow it down quite a bit. I will call them ... any other suggestions? Are there any genealogical societies that will do obituary searches? Thanks for your help. Bob
