Hello Fellow Listers: I've been trying to help my friend and distant relative do his family tree and just realized (with all of the postings about the BARBOUR clan on the lists) that his mother's name was Betty BARBOUR. Betty was to be married to Thurston Edward CLINE (b.16-Sep-1915 d.Aug-1968 bd.Bendersville Cemetery, Adams Co., PA.). Is anyone familiar with this Betty BARBOUR?????? Donna Heller Zinn of Newville, Cumberland Co., PA.

Here's what I have: Michael Moore came form Cork, Ireland and served in the War for Independence as a private in Col. Stephen Moylan's Cavalry , Continental Line. (Recorded July 4, 1781). After the war, it is believed he lived with his family on a seventy-five acre farm in Fermanagh Township, Cumberland County, PA (now Juniata County) until his death in 1785.Deborah was widowed at age thirty-fve upon the death of Michael, who was forty-three. They had been married eight years and had Joseph, 4, and Garret, 6 . Deborah then married John Davis in 1791, and they settled in Clinton Twp., Butler Co. Joseph Moore was born 6 Mar 1781 and died 24 Aug 1829. He married Rebecca Watson (her brother, James, married Mary Davis, daughter of Deborah and John Davis!)on 16 Aug 1803. Garret Moore was born in 1779 and died in 1861. He moved with his wife Sarah from Deer Creek Township, Allegheny County, to the farm previously owned by his mother and step-father, Deborah and John Davis, in south Clinton Township, Butler County. John R Moore, their only son, died on the farm in 1866. Garret and Sara are buried in Westminster Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Clinton Twp. Joespeh and Garret both served in the War of 1812. Please email for more discussion on Deborah's ancestry. I think she might be Irish, rather than German. Do you know? I'd be happy with whatever you can send me. Barbour, 83, died at home of niece Alice Shannon whom he was visiting in Newville, after being ill for a week. Born July 7, 1863, in Mt Holly Springs to the late John and Elizabeth Peters Barbour. Survived by daughter Mrs C Blanche Varner and brother William Barbour. Rev. Charles H Davis officiated with burial in Mt Holly Cemetery. Burial: Mount Holly Springs Cemetery Mount Holly Springs Cumberland County Pennsylvania, USA Plot: row 2 N There are quite a few Barbours shown as buried at Mt. Holly Springs Cemetery. Because of the above info showing Edward's mother's name as Elizabeth, I checked the 1860 census and found: Series: M653 Roll: 1102 Page: 818 1860 - Carlisle P.O., S. Middleton Twp., Cumberland Co., PA - 7/11/1860 Barber, John C. - 27 - farm laborer - $400/150 -- Elizabeth - 26 -- Mary - 6 -- Anna - 3 -- Margaret - 1 -- William - 84 - cooper PA for all. Since Edward's mother shows up in the 1880 as Ann E., I suspect that this Elizabeth is the same person as Anna (1870) and Ann E. (1880). We don't know if Annie claimed 2 children in 1900, the enumerator could have assumed that the girls were hers. We don't know if the Annies of 1900, 1910, & 1920 were all the same person. In 1900, they were shown as married 3 yrs.; in 1920, the couple was shown as married 10 yrs. Edward's age was consistent (37/46/56), but Annie's age wasn't consistent (30/46/49). I rechecked the 1910 to see if I misread her age, it clearly says 46, I was hoping it said 40... The children issue wasn't consistent and Annie and her parents' birthplaces showed a slight variation in 1920 (PA/PA/PA vs. PA/Germany/PA). So, it may have been one Annie, or he may have married more than one Annie. Unfortunately, for the 1910, I couldn't read which number marriage this was for Edward. Annie's clearly said "1", but Edward's had a mark that I couldn't decipher. That might have helped. I have access to Heritage Quest Online through my public library system. I can access the info from my home using my library card number. I don't understand what your question is regarding FamilySearch. Thank You! However, now you've presented me with a problem. Who was the mother of the daughters, Emma or Anna? My guess is that Emma was Ed's first wife and they had Blanche and Hazel. But Emma was only 29 when she died and the girls 7 and 10. Ed then found a wife, Anna - 8 yrs his senior - to help raise his girls. I guess the next place to knock is the ???? Church or cemetery records. Perhaps a local paper would have reported on weddings, births, deaths and obits. Would that be only the Carlisle paper? I have been spoiled by HAHS library's indexed extracts of the Hummelstown Sun from it's beginning to 1955. A lot of dedicated work by a few great ladies. Another interesting item, I worked with a Varner (Blanche's husband's surname) from that Mt Holly area on the RR. I'll be making a call tomorrow. My life is an unending tale of serendipities of "It's a Small World." Larry, are your records photo or text? I collect tombstone photos if you have them. I am looking for William POWEL(L) who showed up as owner of fifty acres in Dickinson Township, Washington County, 1787. Next door to William lived Widow POWELL. As added information: Isaac POWELL, another William POWELL, John POWELL and Joseph POWELL showed up on the Dickinson tax lists between 1787 and 1789. Anybody researching the POWEL(L) families of Cumberland who could possibly provide a clue/source/information? There is no land record for William POWELL in Westmoreland County. TIA Rick Powell

Hello Fellow Listers: Just came across the following obituary from my aunt Romayne TONER HELLER's collection and thought someone on this list might be interested.
