    1. [PACUMBER] Good, John M - Cumberland County, PA
    2. Terry Good
    3. Does anyone have any information on John M. Good, a member of one of my family trees who lived in Cumberland County during the 1800s. His wife was named Maria and his children were named: Hiram, Anna, John and Emma. So far, with the assistance of Joe Patterson of the Cumberland County USGenWeb project and the Mennonite Historical Society, I have found him and his family in the following years living in Cumberland County, with one exception: 1845 purchased land in South Middleton 1847 purchased land in South Middleton 1850 Census living in South Middleton 1852 with land and a distillery 1856 as a tenant 1857 with 30 acres and a distillery. 1859 freeholder with 28 acres. 1860 Census living in Mount Holly Springs, Cumberland County 1870 Census living in Huntington, Adams County 1880 Census living in Mount Holly Springs, Cumberland County According to the 1850 Census, he was born about 1816 in Pennsylvania. The 1790 Cumberland County Census shows three Goods, Peter, Patrick and Edward. residing in Cumberland County. On the 1800 Census there are an Edward and two Peters. I have the 1807 will on one Peter that seems to rule out JMG as a child of his. However, this Peter does have a child, John, who conceivably could be the father of JMG. I believe this John Good to be the one appearing on the 1810 and 1820 Censuses living in Cumberland County in the borough of West Pennsboro which is later renamed South Middleton. I find no Good living in Cumberland County on the 1830 Census. The other Peter on the 1800 Census could be John's father. But I don't have enough information to go forward with this search. I have not pursued Patrick or Edward. Nor have I looked at the census for 1840.

I don't know if it will help or not but CB Duncan married Hannah Harvey and Hannah's father was John Harvey and her mother was Sarah Culbertson. Sarah's parents were Robert Culbertson and get this Nancy Breckenridge. Another twist is Robert Culbertson's father was Col Robert Culbertson and get this Ann DUNCAN. This is all on CB Duncan's wife's side. So why was Culbertson Breckenridge Duncan given those names? Probably because he also is somehow related to the Breckenridge and Culbertson line on his side. What a mess. His wife may have been his cousin. Dave Fridinger-Brown Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. PA Her parents were Charles Ashenfelter and Lillian Bartell (or Bartels). Lillians full name was Gertrude Sophia Lillian Bartels (my mom's sister) She was b. 1902. When Lillian and Charles divorced Charlotte went to live with his sisters and I don't believe my mother's family ever saw her again. She was told her parents were deceased. When she married Robert Calvin Miller in 1947, the marriage license shows her parents to be deceased. At the time she married she was living on Hummel St. in Harrisburg. I followed her and her husband to 1967 I believe when they lived in Cumberland Co. The SSDI shows a Charlotte B. Miller who b. 1914 and d. 2003 in Mechanicsburg. Wondering if that was her and they messed up the birth year. Lillian died in 1972 and is buried in Troy NY. I knew Charles was working in the steel mill when I did in 1969.
