    1. Re: [PACUMBER] George SINGLE b 1819
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: JimRobisonS Surnames: Steele, Single, Osman Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.pennsylvania.counties.cumberland/1610.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I found them in the 1880, 1870, and 1860 censuses. Found George Single in the 1850 census with his sister Susanna Single. I found George's parents, John Single and Eve, in 1840, 1830, 1820, 1810, and found their listing in the Walter's Church-St. James Churchyard, Silver Spring Twp, Cumberland Co., PA. John Single b. 11 Sep 1777, d. 19 Aug. 1846, Eve b. 10 Feb. 1789, d. 28 Jan. 1849 widow of John Single. Census records of their children consistently list both John and Eve Single as both born in Pennsylvania. Records I found say Single, Shingle or Singles. Interesting about the Dutch bond girl story. Family legend in our family claimed there was Indian ancestry on this branch of the family. The 1810 through 1830 censuses listed John, Eve and children as "Free White Persons". The 1840 census listed John and the children as "Free Colored", and Eve as "Free White". Later censuses listed the children of John and Eve variously as either White or Mulatto. I would love to exchange more information with you. My Great Grandmother was Beatrice Letitia Steele (Blanche's older sister). I don't have information about the descendants of Blanche Steele and Forest Lloyd. Would love to get that, and give you our branch. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: lloydpuppet11 Surnames: SINGLE, OSMAND, OSMAN, LINGLE, LLOYD, STEELE Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.pennsylvania.counties.cumberland/1610.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: George SINGLE is my 2g grandfather through Francis Newton STEELE and Susanna SINGLE. The family story had George's wife's name as Evanna OSMAND. The 1860 Census shows her living with George as a domestic and her name is Ann OSMAN. The 1870 Census shows her name as Eve A SINGLE. Another family story is that George's grandmother was a Dutch bond girl who was bought by a Indian. Another story is that the family name was LINGLE but when the family moved from Pennsylvania to Kansas too many people kept saying Single so they changed it. The 1860 & 1870 Census seem to indicate that if a name change occurred it was much earlier than the move to Garland, Kansas in the early 1870's. The family stories came to me through my grandmother Blanche Edna Steele LLOYD b. 1903, daughter of Francis N. STEELE and Susanna SINGLE Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I noticed that your source information for 90-118 does not show up when I select them. Other than that your work must be complimented. Very nice!! My focus at this time is John Hart of First Moon, Beaver, PA. Based on "Birds of a feature flock together," the 1810 census, his children might include Daniel, Elijah, James, Mitchel, another son and a daughter. These individuals surround an older man named John Hart whom I believe must be the father. I am descended from James Hart. So......John Hart's Family probably looks like this if we're are lucky: Mitchel HART b 17 Jul 1773 Margaret HART b Jan 1775 Richmond HART b abt 1777 Daniel HART b 1778 d 11 Aug 1815 James HART b abt 1780 Elijah HART b 28 Feb 1782 d 16 May 1874 Son HART Daughter HART Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
