Based on the date of death for Nancy Dawson (5/9/1818) I believe she married into the previous generation's John Monks (b. 1786-1794 in Ireland, d 1/1/1860 in Carlisle, Cumberland Co., PA). I show Sarah Warden born 10/12/1829 in Carlisle, PA. She died 7/9/1912 in Oil City, Venango Co., PA. She and John Monks had 8 children that I'm aware of -- Thomas John, William W., John, Margaret Blain, Edwin, Mary "Bunny", Sally, and Katie. I've been trying to track information for the earlier generations but have been running into the perverbial block wall. I'd love to share information if you've got anything else. 3. I am wondering if anyone knows or has any ideas on the whereabouts of Rehoboth Church (Walnut Bottom Road near Lees Cross Roads) records prior to the 1920s? I have been to Cumberland County Historical Society in Carlisle, Newville Historical Society, and Shippensburg Historical Society with no luck or leads. Since the church was razed back in the 1970s most people guess the old records wound up at someone's house. So, if anyone knows people who used to attend there before it joined with Trinity United Methodist, please ask them about the old Rehoboth church records. I am specifically interested in baptism and marriage records from the 1850s-1900 pertaining to William B. Morrow, wife Anna Maria Evans, and their 11 or so children. I know where they are buried, or most of them, which is Rehoboth Cemetery on Walnut Bottom Road--but am trying to move back a generation. Any leads or information would be appreciated. I have thought about taking out an ad in the local newspapers--has anyone tried that and gotten positive results? Thank you. -- Nora Avery Florida

I was questioned on knowing the dates without the marker when the obvious answer is his widow shared the info with her family. Sarah Stauffer Weltmer moved to IL shortly after his death and remarried. Jacob was my 2ggrandfather. 1. Re: [PACUMBER] Rare and out-of-print family genealogy and HistoryBooks.
    2. I fell for a spam once and never again. I had bought a book about Wm. Penn and it was his life story and the book was written back in 1850 and I had had it just a little while when I got this e-mail. It looked like it was a very real place what they would do is put your book on a CD and then use the CD's they made to sell and they would take your book apart and put it back together. They would also send you a CD along with your book back. Well I fell for it and lost my book as it turned out to be a scam. I e-mailed the BBB and they couldn't do anything as it was out of our state but they did call the one in that state they could not get them to answer the phone or anything. I never could get them to answer my e-mails after they got my book. I kick myself everyday for falling for that scam but I wanted to be able to read the book without hurting the book and it seemed like a good idea and it looked very real. I should have know how can you take a book apart that is that old without destroying it. I always wonder to how many other people did they scam. I hope they get caught. Vivian Brandal P.S. I have never been able to find that book again either.

    3. Vivian, Have you tried searching Google Books for the William Penn book you mention? Published in 1850, it is most likely in the public domain now. Based on the 1850 date, "William Penn" as a title, and returning only results that were full-view, I searched and came up with this book- "William Penn, a Historical Biography", by William Hepworth Dixon, published 1851: http://books.google.com/books?id=GDc-AAAAcAAJ&dq=William%20Penn%20inauthor%3AWilliam%20inauthor%3APenn&lr=&as_drrb_is=b&as_minm_is=0&as_miny_is=1845&as_maxm_is=0&as_maxy_is=1855&as_brr=1&pg=PR3#v=onepage&q=&f=false I have reported the book posts on several of the lists. The first time they went out a few weeks ago, it was on over 200 lists. . ________________________________ From: "wintertime@netonecom.net" <wintertime@netonecom.net> To: pacumber@rootsweb.com Sent: Sun, March 21, 2010 12:37:52 PM Subject: Re: [PACUMBER] Rare and out-of-print family genealogy and HistoryBooks. Enola and West Fairview are both in East Pennsboro Township. The cemetery was originally attached to "the brick church" which burnt.
