    3. This is my first post to the Cumberland Co. List. I am looking for any information on PETER WAREHAM/WAREHEIM/WAREHIME/WERHEIM/etc. who is listed as a member of a company of volunteers from Cumberland County commanded by Capt. George HENDEL during the War of 1812. He later settled in the area of Selinsgrove, Union (now Snyder) County. He married Maria HOLSTEIN, daughter of George HOLSTEIN and Maria Barbara WEISER. Any information that might help me determine Peter's family of birth will be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help. 1. [PACUMBER] Watsons
    2. Janet Watson
    3. I found this in an account of my Watson line -- I don't hink it is accurate in regard to my ancestor, as he was born in Ireland in 1740, but it probably has some basis in fact. "Soon after the battle of the Boyne 1690, owing to the religious intolerance and dissension, the Watson family moved from Scotland to County Tyrone, Ireland. How long they remained I do not know, probably not long for in the early part of the eighteenth century, presumably in 1729, when the great tidal wave of immigration crossed the Atlantic from Scotland and Ireland, they came to America and located for a season in Franklin county, Penn near where Chambersburg now stands. This was during the old French Wars 1740-1750. Here they were greatly harassed by the Indians. During the wars a few years later they moved to the Carolinas. Our direct line remained in Pennsylvania."

A general suggestion!! if the message you are replying to is one of those GATEWAYED messages from the ancestry.com message boards, it is a good idea to click on it and post your reply to the message board. Another way to assure your message reaches the sender is to copy paste the email address of the poster to your list of addressees.... Hope this helps.... -- joe

    1. [PACUMBER] HANNAH DERRY - 1830 Census
    2. Hello -- This is my first time to post to this list. Does anyone out there in Cumberland County, PA have information of HANNAH DERRY who is recorded in the 1830 PA Census for Silverspring Township? I am trying to determine if this is the same PHEBE (or HANNAH) DERRY who is recorded in the 1820 PA Census for Fayette County, Georges Township. If so, she might be related to my husband's 4th great-grandfather, BAZIL DERRY (1786-1879). Thank you very much! Joan Brown Derry MDMama2841@aol.com

    1. [PACUMBER] Cemetery Sites/ BREADY family - Unsolved Mystery!
    2. jwatson
    3. Thank you Mary Beth for posting this site. I have found some dramatic information about my family. In the 1870 census, I found my great grandfather in Cumberland County, East Pennsborough, listed as James Brady with a wife Margaret (age 26 and born in Britain) and four children. In the 1880 census he appears with a wife Margaret (age 27 and born in Ireland),only one of the four children who were in the family in 1870 (John) and 3 additional children( my great-grandmother, Jennie, 9, Mary E., 7 and Maggie, 4). In this cemetery listing, I found three of his four children from the 1870 census who died within a year of each other (Caty died July 7, 1869, Abraham died August 27, 1870 and Samuel died August 28, 1870). In the cemetery records the family is listed as James and Margaret Bready. This is the spelling that I had passed down from my relatives. Naturally, I am more curious than ever about the family and what happened. Does anyone have any information about Bready families in Cumberland County, obituaries of these children or information about any epidemics that might have occurred in 1869 and 1870? Also, is there any particular religion or church associated with this cemetery? Another question, if he remarried, his first wife must have also died in 1870 or 1871. Are there any records of deaths or marriages from this period? I suppose that the age and place of birth of Margaret could be in error. Any help with this unsolved mystery would be appreciated. 1. [PACUMBER] 1750-70 Carlisle area: Nickols, McNickle, Nicholson
    2. Anne Crocker
    3. I am looking specifically for a Culbert/Calbert/Cuthbert NICHOLSON with wife Jannet CANDOR and several children resident in Carlisle area ca late 1750s through at least 1765. I have found one taxlist entry, a few jury lists, and perhaps one Cumberland petition in the late 1750s with Culbert NICHOLSON listed but no deeds, church lists, court docs, etc. However, Culbert may be part of a larger clan of Nichol*/McNickles families in the area. The CANDOR surname seems connected as well to the HALL, RODDY, and MONTGOMERY lines. One NICHOLSON son married a JACK; in NC the families are somehow connected with the CUMMINS and CORUM and VARNER families too. Culbert NICHOLSON and Jannet CANDOR married 1736 at First Presbyterian in Philadelphia. Their probable oldest children (known names John, Joseph, George) may have married in Carlisle. No daughters known, Family moved to Mecklenburg Co., NC, by winter 1766/67 and further into Wilkes/Oglethorpe/Greene Co., GA, by 1800. Anne
