Surnames: McKinstry, Bratton Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/JaB.2ACE/1585.1 Message Board Post: Hello, Bob. First, let me get this straight. James McKinstry (b. 1733) and Alexander McKinstry (b.1738) are brothers. James McKinstry (1733-1814) m. Sarah Huston. James and Sarah Huston McKinstry had a son named Alexander McKinstry (1770-1828) who m. Sarah McDonald. James and Sarah Huston McKinstry also had a daughter named UNKNOWN McKinstry who m. George Bratton. Alexander McKinstry (1738-1813) m. Sarah UNKNOWN. Alexander and Sarah UNKNOWN McKinstry had a son James McKinstry (b.1783) who m. Catherine UNKNOWN. I hope I have the above correct. I am interested in the daughter, UNKNOWN McKinstry, of James and Sarah Huston McKinstry. She's the one who married George Bratton. Do you have any more info on her? Her date of birth? Her marriage date? Her children? I am looking for parents for an Alexander Bratton b. 178x or 179x. Perhaps this George and UNKNOWN McKinstry Bratton are my Alexander Bratton's parents? Looking forward to your response. cakemp@yahoo.com
Since that would make Evelyn L. Cornman Thumma your great aunt (great name by the way), that would make us very distant cousins. But I would like to add in what you have on your family anyway if you would like to share it. I really get excited when I find a new cousin!!! I have Charles A. Cornman b: January 5, 1877 m: Gertrude Shughart b: May 22, 1884 The Cornman book doesn't list Evelyn as a daughter of Charles and Gertrude though. I have Charles as the son of John P. Cornman and Maria Ann Darr. John P. was the son of David Cornman and Elizabeth Leaphart. David was the son of Henry Cornman and Mary Norris. Henry was the son of John Cornman and Elizabeth. And John was the son of Ludwig Sr. That's where we connect. I don't have anything past 1915 except my own family and a few other cousins I have found. 1915 is as far as the Cornman book goes. I would appreciate filling out your family too. That would make my records more complete on the Cornmans. I look forward to hearing from you!!! You can contact the cemetary at : East Harrisburg Cemetary, 2260 Herr Street, Harrisburg, PA 17103 or at 717-233-6789. The lady in the office was very helpful to me with my research. You might have to pay a small fee for a copy. She gave me a copy of the gravesite, certificate to open the grave, and those relatives in the family plot. The info also had next of kin, cause of death and the type of casket and marker. Not all graves have this info, especially the older ones but some of the relatives in mid 1930's did have this info. Good luck on your search. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ame Willis Ivanov" <ame@alaska.net> To: <PACUMBER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, September 25, 2002 8:31 PM Subject: [PACUMBER] Harrisburg cemeteries > I know it's on the other side of the river, but does anyone know where I can find information on burials in the Harrisburg Cemetery, or the East Harrisburg Cemetery? Thanks for the ideas Amy and Cheryl. I will try for a death certificate and see if the cemetery can help. One of my problems is uncertainty about last my great aunt's last name at death, but a cousin remembers a burial in Harrisburg: I was there, but too young to recall where. Why don't you try to get the death certificate, or call PA vital statistics? That should list the cemetery. Leon, I am interested in the combination of LEMON and LEWIS. My GGGGrandfather, Arthur James Boyd, married Molly Lewis in Harrison County, KY 1804. He was supposedly born in PA. His sister, Mary Polly Boyd, married Robert Lemon in Harrison County, KY Dec 19, 1807. Do you have anything on connections to BOYD? John Boyd
I recorded the following in my notes while visiting Big Spring Cemetery 10 years ago: "Diana Lemon, died -- 12, 1837 aged 75 years mother of Mrs. Mary Harper died August 3, 1865 aged 67 years" It appears that the inscriptions are from the same stone, though I cannot recall exactly. My wife's ggg grandmother was Maria Harper McLaughlin (1805-1886), wife of Samuel McLaughlin (1796-1862), who are also buried at Big Spring ( though not listed on the USGENWEB site). I have been unsuccessful in determining Maria's parents and would appreciate any help I can get on the Harper line. Tom ----- Original Message ----- From: "Leon M. The following information comes from the Big Spring Presbyterian Graveyard, Newville, Cumberland Co., Pa. listing on the USGenWeb site: Harper, John d. 10-11-1846, b. 11-29-1793, Major Harper, Mary, Mrs. d. 8-3-1865, age 67y, w/o Major John Harper; d/o Diana Lewis Harper, Dianna L. d. 8-7-1829, age 6y 8m, d/o John & Mary L. William has an aunt named Mary, who from looking at both of William grandparents would have been the one married to Major John Harper. All of the other aunts and uncles have known spouses. Mary Lemon's mother was Diana Lemon. Mrs. Diana Lemon is buried in this same cemetery. I assume that she was living with her daughter Mary at the time of her death. Graveyard Listing: Lemon, Diana, Mrs. d. 12-00-1837, age 75y I think that the Diana Lewis listed as Mary Harpers mother could have been Diana Lemon. I would greatly appreciate it if someone could verify what the inscription reads on Mrs. Mary Harper's headstone. Thank you very much. Leon Lemon leonlemon@attbi.com
