    1. [PACUMBER] New Cemetery listings: Old Grave Yard Carlisle and Mechanicsburg
    2. Joe
    3. Two updated cemetery listings are now available on the Cumberland USGenWeb Archives page. Betty Carson has completed her 2002 reading of the Old Graveyard in Carlisle. There are now three files dealing with this cemetery, each is needed to see all names. Two have been on-line for a while, the major addition of the new reading was just added. Betty has done an outstanding job in updating the work by Sarah Woods Parkinson. The second is the completion of the work by Annie Brooks and members of the West Shore YMCA Genealogy Club. An Alpha listing of the Mechanicsburg Cemetery is now complete. About 7000 listings in this cemetery. These listings are available with direct access to the ftp directory. If you have some comments, pro or con, would appreciate a note. Thanks to the West Shore Genie Club and Betty for sharing these major undertakings. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/pa/cumberland/cemet.htm -- joe

I have just got a list on names of family members dating back to 1800`s, and am having trouble linking up connections. Myles seems to be a strong family forename in my strain, my grandfather was called this along with a number of family members. I also have a visitors book from Hoathwaite House in Torver which was a farmhouse that was used by visitors to the lake district and dates back to 1900`s. All the way through it complements mrs satterthwaite of her cooking and kindness, unfortunetly I am still trying to discover how she was linked to myself. Julie Satterthwaite

    1. [PACUMBER] Church 680 Pennsylania Ave -1890
    2. Arthur Laube
    3. Samuel MATEER about circa 1890, in Columbus, Ohio, was said by his 99 year-old-grandson, Ivan LAUBE, to have built a church near where he lived at 618 Pennsylvania Avenue. Soon after the church was completed he put an organ on a wagon and delivered it to the church. His several daughters played the organ for church services. (I suppose that meant Samuel assisted in some important way in the building of the church - he was a railroad stationary engineer, and could very likely have aided in the construction - even though he was 64 years-old.) That story was told to me more than ten-years ago. I included it in my notes and it has survived several changes in computers and changes in the way I keep my notes. Today, while reviewing these old files for MATEER family records for an e-mail friend I came upon this forgotten tidbit. Today things are different than they were ten-years ago. For one, the Franklin County rootsweb must have ten or a hundred times more listers than in say 1990. For another I now know that Samuel H. MATEER was Born: December 13, 1826 in East Pennsborough Township, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. Died: January 16, 1918 in Logan, Ohio. (He was known as Mater in Pennsylvania and he signed his name that way when he married Rebecca Shawley/Shally/Schally of Carlisle.) But in Columbus he was always known as Mateer. His wife's family was Lutheran and Reformed - back almost to Luther. So I now ask what was the church nearest to 618 Pennsylvania Avenue about 1890? And if it wasn't Lutheran where was the nearest Lutheran church located. Best regards to the ever helpful list-- Hal

    2. John Henry Thumma and Susan Wolf(e) had the following children: George Washington Thumma b. February 22, 1877 Harry Peter Thumma b. July 24, 1879 Cumberland Co. PA I've been looking for the above for years. Maybe I've been going about it the wrong way. I've always looked for John Henry and Susan (Wolf) Thumma. I've never been able to prove that John Henry and Susan were ever married. So what I may need to do is look for Susan perhaps living with someone else or her parents in the 1880 census. I'm hoping to find George and Harry as small children in the 1880 census. I've had no luck...can any one help me out? I know where George and Harry are buried along with their wives...but I can find no trace of John Henry or Susan.... PLEASE help....thanks...
