This URL: http://www.greencastlemuseum.org/Local_History/pawling's_tavern.htm tells of PAWLING's Tavern. While I could easily have passed the information up, something was revealed to me in connection with the PAWLING family that prevents that... "Henry Pawling came into the Cumberland Valley in the 1740s when he purchased lands in southern Antrim Township. ... He had come from the rural area near Philadelphia in what is now Montgomery County. After erecting his log home he married Mary Hicks, daughter of a neighbor, Nicholas Hicks. Their first child, a son, was named for the father and their only other child, a daughter, was given the name, Eleanor." The mention of Nicholas HICKS, and child Mary riveted my attention. Can any among us tell me of Henry PAWLING & Mary HICKS, or, perhaps even better, Nicholas HICKS? There seem to be one to three or more Nicholas HICKS out there in the early-mid-1700's, and I want to get to know who they were, who their parents were, etc. Thanks! Vince Summers
