    3. You have to also go the ARIAS site, which presently has photocopies of the information cards the PHMC (Penn Hist Museum Comm) has for all of their Revolutionary service. Robert Weir appears on http://www.digitalarchives.state.pa.us/archive.asp?view=ArchiveItems&Archive ID=13&FID=596442&LID=596541&FL=W&Page=3 , but the general address is http://www.digitalarchives.state.pa.us/ . The State is paying to have these converted, might as well use them. Other items concerning Cumberland Co. may appear in correspondence published in the 1st Series of the published "Pennsylvania Archives" (editor for most of the series was Egle). Also if you'll locate the web site of the (governmental organization) Pennsylvania Archives in Harrisburg, there are links to very lengthy lists of its holdings concerning the various Counties: tax lists, land surveys, militia lists, etc. These lists note what was published in the above **published** "Pennsylvania Archives", by series, volume and pages' numbers. This will enable you to request the right volume(s) via inter-library loan, if you are not near a city that has a library that already has the very extensive published series. Inter-library loan costs a few dollars per volume for a book you can look at over the course usually of 2 weeks. Since these volumes are now over 100 years old, you probably will not be permitted to take one home. Be sure to ask to borrow the *index* book(s) for the series you're looking for! For the 3rd Series it's in 3 volumes. ______________________________

All men aged 16-60 were supposed to be in the County Militia. If the inquirer seeks this information in order to qualify for membership in an organization such as SAR or DAR, evidence of active duty or an active act of patriotism is required. The data on this particular card does not supply that evidence. This may or may not be the individual you were looking for; you'd have to prove it one way or another. Study of the history of formation of Pennsylvania counties will help you pinpoint where to look.

    3. That was well put, Bill. The only thing I'll add is a little background on the Church of God. A Reformed pastor John Wienbrenner left the Salem Reformed Congregation in Harrisburg and several years later (around 1826) began his own congregation, first calling themselves the Winebrennarian Church and then the Church of God. 3. Hal, According to Fraise and Durand's "History of Cumberland County", Peace Church near Shiremanstown was a German Reformed congregation. The COG in Cumberland County started in Shippensburg as The "Union Christian Church" about 1828, and changed its name to Church of God in 1834-35. I don't have a specific ref. to the UCC church in Mechanicsburg, but the UCC of today grew out of the German Reformed church. "Union" churches were built usually by a Reformed Congregation and a Lutheran Congregation when neither of them could afford to go it alone. They used the one building alternatly for services. As far as I can see, when they got big enough to afford their own church, these buildings would later end up being held by one of the congregations, and the other one would build a new one. Anybody else care to chime in? Did she go to Cumberland County to live with a married sister? Hal

    2. Donna Heller Zinn
    3. Hi Marjorie: Well... that's a good question! I thought I'd be able to go to the censuses and find the parents of Sarah E. LOGAN - but it's not going to be that easy! I found Sarah E. LOGAN living with her grandparents, George and Elizabeth KNOUSE in 1880 and 1870. I then found George and Elizabeth with their own children in 1860. Transcribe censuses below: 1880 Cumberland Co., PA. Census pg.10; Frankford Twp.; 5&7-Jun-1880 KNOUSE George 59 Farmer PA/PA/PA " Elizabeth 63 Wife " " " LOGAN Sarah E. 13 G-Daugh. Single Servant Attended School Can't Write PA/PA/PA 1870 Cumberland Co., PA. Census pg.61; Frankford Twp.; PO: Bloserville; 14-Jul-1870 KNOUSE George 45 Farmer b.PA Male Citizen of US " Elizabeth 51 Keeping House RE$1600 PE$300 b.PA " George W. 14 b.PA Attended School " Susan 11 " " " " LOGAN Sarah E. 3 " " 1860 Cumberland Co., PA. Census pg.338; Mifflin Twp.; PO: Newville; 6-Jul-1860 NOUSE George 37 Farmer PE$200 b.PA " Eliz 40 " " Leah 13 " Attended School " Saml. 10 " " " " Geo. 6 " " " " John 6 " " Susan 1 " Looking over the other LOGANs that were in the township and were having children - there could be several possibilities: James (b.ca.1808 d.pre 1880) and Lida E. (b.ca.1833 - after her husband's death she married James R. WALKER) LOGAN ---- or ---- James D. (b.1794 d.1869) and Lydia Catherine (b.1828) LOGAN. I was unable to find other LOGANs in Frankford Twp. to see if they had any other children about the same age as Sarah E. - in 1870. Do you by chance know when Sarah E. LOGAN died? And where buried? If so, you can request her Death Certificate if she died after 1905 in Pennsylvania.
