There are about 14 Heffelingers mentioned in the book "The German Line of the North Family" at the Cumberland Historical Society. Paul
Hi All, 1820,1830,1840 Census Would someone look up Sebastian Eckert b:1806? In 1850 he is in New Kingston, Cumberland Co. (He is not the one in Dunstable) Please help me find him, Thanks, Dru

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/JaB.2ACE/3000 Message Board Post: Does anyone have any information on the 1st Medical Regiment at the Carlisle Barracks from about 1929 to about 1932? Was there a hospital or clinic at this location? Are there any lists of soldiers serving in this Regiment during this time? Any information appreciated.
Dru, Going by the information provided ( ages of children and adults) in the 1850 census I have found this in the 1840. 1840 Dauphin Co., PA Londonderry Twp. Roll M704_456 Page 249 Head of house shown as Sebastian Eckert Males under 5 - 2 5 - 10 - 2 20 - 30 - 1 60 - 70 - 1 Females 20 - 30 - 1 This would probably indicate that Sebastian's father was living with him in 1840. The daughter who is shown as 10 yrs in the 1850 census was most likely born after the census was taken. In 1820 and 1830 , Sebastian is at the age, ( 6 and 16 ) to be living with his parents and therefore would be enumerated under his father's name. I hope this helps, Carolyn Campbell White -----Original Message----- From: DRU2250@aol.com [mailto:DRU2250@aol.com] Sent: Friday, February 14, 2003 4:30 PM To: PACUMBER-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [PACUMBER] census Hi All, 1820,1830,1840 Census Would someone look up Sebastian Eckert b:1806? Jane-could you give some first names of your Heffelfingers? I have a couple of sources that I can try, but I need specific names to shrink the search down. Kris
Jane - If nothing else works - I think that the LDS Family History Centers have both of these on microfilm. You could check at www.familysearch.org. You need to find the nearest center to you and order them from that center. Hello Fellow Listers: This just came through to me. Though someone on the list might be interested. Happy Valentines Day! The work is signed on the bottom of the birth record page by the scrivner: "George E. FRANCK, Siesholzville Berks Co. Pa." These records were likely executed shortly after the September 1873 birth date of daughter Anna Matilda STAUFFER. The parents were Franklin STAUFFER, born in Oley Township April 1 1844, and Malinda Rebecca STAUFFER, born in Pike Township in 1852. [Editor's Note: I read the marriage record as being that of Franklin STAUFFER and Malinda REICHERT? on 11 January 1873. The family record appears to me to begin with Franklin STAUFFER, [son of] Henry STAUFFER and frau Anna [maiden name] WITT, [who was born] 1st? April 1844. [Next entry] Malinda Rebecca STAUFFER, [daughter of] John REICHERT? and frau Sarah [maiden name] REICHERT?, [who was born] 24th May 1852. [Last entry] Anna Matilda STAUFFER [born] 30 June 1873 [and baptized] 26 September 1873,] The Bible also contains several 19th century family photos, taken by Reading Photographers, in the back. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2507376595
Mike- I could find only one BALLENTINE on the Big Spring Presby. records: George married Letitia MARTIN on 11 Apr 1811 in the Newville church. Have you tried a search of the 1810 and 1820 census? I am not sure what was meant by "The Highlands," but Walnut Bottom is a well known name in Cumberland County. It is both a town and a highway. So, if your Walnut Bottom data applies to the town, you should search South Newton Township. (also check JACKSONVILLE as there was a name change). If your Walnut Bottom clue applies to the highway, you must look at every township between Carlisle and Shippensburg on the census. Hope this helps in your search.
Following is from a newspaper article written in 1904: "They left Baltimore and located in a section of Cumberland County Pa. known as the Highlands. Here he followed the occupation of weaver and farmer for a period of 23 years, then removed to the Walnut Bottoms where he remained till 1831." THEY are William and Nancy (Nail) BALLENTINE. THEY had 13 children born between 1802-1826. Two died while in Pa.: Elisa 1802 and Andrew 1829. THEY left Pa. and migrated to Ohio in 1831. Can anyone help me with any records that these BALLENTINE's may have in this area? I am trying my hardest to get from Ireland to Ohio in my lineage but hit a brickwall when it comes to their time in Pa. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Mike Ballentine

In the Cumberland County Historical Society library the is a book, the Sterrett Genealogy by a member of the Sterrett family. I,too, am related to the Sterrett family through the marriage of Harriet Sterrett to Thomas Cochran and earlier of Sarah Sterrett to Samuel Hanna. Some of the information in the book is incorrect but its only very peripheral information and is in the names of relations. Not the name precisely, but in spelling.
I must apologize to all listers. A message was prepared and sent to PACUMBER-L yesterday, but somehow never appeared on the list. Maybe I hit the wrong "send" button. My message stated that Lic #222 was issued to William RALSTON: "January 3, 1736, 100ac to William Ralston, on the south side of the Conedogwt amongst the Barrens joyning to the lower side of Widdow Jacks place (no license)." This should be in the vicinity of current-day Roxbury and Newburg, not far from the Middle Spring Presbyterian Church. Widow Jack (having no Blunston license) means in all probability that she and her husband were "squatters" and definitely were located there before 1736. Since Blunston started to issue licenses in January, 1734, it is also probable that Jack was there prior to this date. As long as squatters cleared their land and built a cabin, they were usually allowed to stay and eventually obtained a deed. The exception to this is when the squatter built on land that was not yet purchased from the Indians; in this case, the Sheriff and his posse may burn down the cabin and drive the pioneers off the property.
The county seat for Cumberland County is Carlisle. The earlier records are in various places. Some are at the courthouse, some at the Historical Society in Carlisle and some in Adams County,in Gettysburg. There are no marriage or birth records for that period in offical documents as no certificate was required at that time. You would have to look in old church records. Hope this helps
